SCORE ROTARY ENGINE FROM JOHN DEERE LICENSED BY NSU/WANKEL:

Deere and Company had acquired the rotary engine assets from Curtiss-Wright and hoped to improve the product and introduce it for military applications. The major advantages of the rotary over a standard diesel engine were cited as greater power density and the ability to burn a variety of different fuels including diesel, combat gasoline, jet fuel and alcohol.

The name SCORE stands for Stratified Charge Omnivorous Rotary Engine Stratified Charge means that the fuel is introduced in layers rather than all at once. An initial charge of fuel is introduced by a pilot injector followed by a larger charge from the main injector this produces a more even power stroke.

SCORE engines “will offer all branches of the military lighter, smaller, faster and more easily transported fighting vehicles, generator sets and power for air and sea craft.

First was the SCORE II family, which was to be introduced for production status by 1990 for military applications. These engines were of the two-rotor design with horsepower ranging from 375 to 2250. SCORE III engines were of the single rotor design for military and commercial applications, ranging from 80 to 320 horsepower, and had gone as high as 750 horsepower used in the MTTB coupled to an Allison X300-4 Automatic Transmission described as the Porsche of tracked vehicles.

The is a prototype personal VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft a "flying car" concept invented by Paul Moller As of 2020, no Moller air vehicle has successfully flown in free, non-tethered flight.

The engines to be used are being developed by an affiliate Moller company called Freedom Motors. They are Wankel engines branded "Rotapower" which have a direct drive to a propulsion fan.
The Wankel engine announced by Freedom Motors has the claimed ability to operate on any fuel including, but not limited to, gasoline, diesel, methanol, and clean renewable ethanol. Earlier Rotapower models used gasoline. The Rotapower engine is based on a rotary engine developed by Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) in the 1970s.
On November 1, 2013 Moller announced that the 530 cc Rotapower engine had achieved 102 horsepower (76 kW) using alcohol (ethanol) on their test stand, yielding an effective 3 horsepower per pound (5 kW/kg) of weight.
Despite announcements since 2001 the Rotapower engine has never been mass produced. As of 2015, Moller claims to have a backlog of conditional orders and letters of intent for over 3.5 Million Rotapower Engines.
