The Qashqai's body is bigger than the Dualis' in the important directions, but the new outlook is the most important thing - during the Dualis years the market segment heated up, with multiple entrants from all corners of the globe. The Qashqai, as the Dualis is now known, has to be better in many ways.

Inside is also a huge leap forward, with better materials and overall construction. There's plenty of clever storage around the cabin and the fit and finish is remarkably good. Some of the materials, like the slippery fake leather on the steering wheel, could be a bit better, but the overall feel is high quality.

Inside, the cabin is spacious and comfortable. Plastic lines every panel on the interior, but they are durable and hard-wearing, which is also the case with the fabric in the cabin.

The rear accommodation is what can be best described as generous. Legroom is plenty, as is headroom. The large is good enough to swallow two mountain bikes with the rear seats folded. The large boot is indeed very useful with a low floor and a wide entry

The Toyota Corolla Fielder is a capable and sensible family workhorse that can swallow a whole boot full of shopping and other gear that the kids may have. It is great for those looking for a fuss free car ownership, and one that gives a drive that is easy on the driver.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named it a Top Safety Pick+, the agency’s top accolade. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Outlander an overall rating of four out of five stars.

It’s been 10 years since the original Toyota Mark X made its debut in Japan, but the question that popps into our heads is: Why isn’t the successor to the Toyota Mark II called the Mark III?

Apparently, the “X” stands for “10”, signifying the 10th generation of Toyota’s long-running Mark II saloon series. But it’s supposed to be pronounced as “ex” instead of “ten”, unlike the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. Well, at least the name is less strange than that of some other Japanese domestic model (JDM) Toyotas, such as Spade, Ractis and, the strangest of all, Sai.
