When I started in banking, I did everything by the book—worked late, hit my targets, stayed in my lane.
But no matter how hard I pushed, I felt stuck, like I was just another name on a spreadsheet.
Then came Jane—my mentor. One day, after a particularly rough week, she sat me down and said:
"You’re good. But being good isn’t enough. Banking isn’t just about numbers, it’s about people. Build relationships, make yourself visible, and don’t wait for opportunities—position yourself for them."
At first, I wasn’t sure what she meant. But I started paying attention. I spoke up more, reached out to seniors for guidance, and learned to navigate office politics.
Within a year, I got my first big promotion. Not because I worked harder, but because I worked smarter.
Jane didn’t just give me advice—she changed the way I saw myself and my understanding of corporate dynamics. And that made all the difference.
I highly recommend career mentorship—it’s the shortcut to wisdom, growth, and opportunities you didn’t even know existed.
