When you are buying a car, Let the seller provide you with the below documents:-
Logbook (also known as the vehicle's registration book or ownership document): This document contains detailed information about the vehicle, including its registration number, engine number, chassis number, and previous ownership history. It is an essential document that proves the seller's legal ownership of the car🚖
Valid Insurance Certificate: The seller should provide the current valid insurance certificate for the vehicle. This document confirms that the car is insured against various risks, such as accidents, theft, and third-party liability.
Valid Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVIC) Certificate: In Kenya, all vehicles are required to undergo periodic inspections to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety standards. The seller should provide a valid MVIC certificate indicating that the vehicle has passed the inspection.
Service and Maintenance Records: ask for the service and maintenance records of the vehicle. These documents provide information about the car's maintenance history, including regular servicing, repairs, and any major work done on the vehicle.
Transfer Forms (Form C and Form D): The seller should have the necessary transfer forms ready for the transaction. Form C is used to notify the Registrar of Motor Vehicles about the change of ownership, while Form D is used to transfer the vehicle's insurance policy to the new owner.
Valid Roadworthiness Certificate: The seller should provide a valid roadworthiness certificate, also known as a certificate of fitness, obtained through a comprehensive inspection of the vehicle's roadworthiness, including brakes, lights, tires, and other critical components.
Original Purchase Invoice: ask for the original purchase invoice from the dealer or previous owner. This document provides details about the car's original purchase price, date of purchase, and any warranties that may still be applicable.
