What a start to the FIVA World Rally 2026 in the Czech Republic! 🇨🇿🏍️

With 145 participants from 18 countries and an outstanding collection of historic motorcycles, this year’s rally is already proving to be a truly memorable event.

On Wednesday, riders set off from České Budějovice in small groups led by the dedicated AKHV marshals, heading to the iconic CZ Motorcycle Museum in Strakonice. Participants had the opportunity to discover the fascinating history of one of the Czech Republic’s most legendary motorcycle brands and its significant contribution to the country’s industrial heritage.

The route then continued with a visit to the beautiful pilgrimage church of Lomec, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, renowned for its unique architecture and spiritual atmosphere.

Under brilliant blue skies, riders enjoyed the best of the South Bohemian countryside: winding roads, rolling hills, forests, lakes and perfect riding conditions that made every kilometre a pleasure.

The day concluded with a visit to the historic Budweiser Budvar Brewery, another symbol of Bohemian tradition with roots stretching back centuries.

A huge thank you to our hosts and organisers, AKHV, for creating such an exceptional experience. The FIVA World Rally continues to establish itself as a must-attend event for historic motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world.

Ettore Bugatti’s genius extended far beyond the automotive world.

Sylvain Vernerey, Directeur Général of the Cité du Train together with Timo Vuortio, FIVA Director Utilitarian Vehicles, present the remarkable 1934 Bugatti railcar, a pioneering vehicle that brought Bugatti’s expertise in performance, aerodynamics, comfort, and innovation to the railway industry.

With its futuristic aerodynamic design, reversible passenger seats and central driving position allowing operation in both directions without changing cabins, this railcar anticipated many concepts that would later define modern high-speed trains. Nearly a century later, it still stands out as a unique example of visionary engineering and mobility heritage.

From the legendary Volkswagen GTI to the iconic hot hatches of the 1990s and 2000s, Youngtimers are becoming an increasingly important part of automotive heritage.

Ramin Salehkhou, FIVA Vice-President Communications, takes a look back at the rise of the hot hatch phenomenon: agile, accessible, and fun-to-drive cars that shaped generations of enthusiasts and redefined everyday performance motoring.

While early models have already become highly collectible, newer generations remain affordable and accessible, offering a new entry point into the world of historic vehicles. Through the FIVA Youngtimer Card, enthusiasts can already begin preserving and documenting these modern classics before they officially reach historic vehicle status.

FIVA Joins in Celebrating World Environment Day 2026 🌍🌱

The 5th of June of each year marks the celebration of World Environment Day, a day which serves to promote awareness and encourages action for the protection of the environment. 🌿

As the primary outreach day of the United Nations for the support of the environment, FIVA is proud to join and lend its support to this global platform. 🤝🌎

With the celebration of its 60th Anniversary, FIVA continues to directly address the balance between enjoyment and responsibility with respect to the environment. 🎉⚖️🌱

The total environmental impact of historical vehicles is extremely low, as evidenced by the fact that the use of historic vehicles on public roads is equivalent to only 0.07% of the distance travelled by modern vehicles. 🚗📊

Notwithstanding these figures, through its technical commission and ANF’s, FIVA continues to tackle and evaluate new technologies such as alternative fuels, green tech and responsible restoration practices to keep historic vehicles on the road, in order to ensure environmental compatibility without compromising authenticity. ⚙️🔋♻️

FIVA also leads by example. The FIVA-ASI Green Dream Team works promotes the message of sustainability and environmental protection and compatibility with historic vehicles by using bio-fuel powered historic vehicles in events and rallies. 🌱🚘🌍

As FIVA crosses the threshold of its sixtieth year since its founding, FIVA is not resting on its laurels. Together with our ANF’s, FIVA will continue to work and set the stage for continuing to achieve and maintain the balance between enjoyment and responsibility with a view towards the next sixty years. 🚀⚖️🌿

We encourage you, whether you are an ANF, national member, FIVA partners or even a historic vehicle enthusiast or a concerned citizen, to provide us your feedback on what initiatives you are following and your views on the compatibility of historic vehicles and the environment. 💬🌍🤝

Recognized and awarded by FIVA in the preservation class at Rétromobile 2026, this pre-war vehicle perfectly illustrates FIVA’s commitment to safeguarding historic vehicles in their most authentic form.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘄𝗶 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘀 🏁🌍

The second running of the Badawi Trail to the Last Oasis, a FIVA registered event organized by long time FIVA partner HERO-ERA, took place starting on the 28th of March in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦, and ending back in Jeddah following some 13 days and 5000 km. of endurance and adventure. 🚗💨

In light of the new regional circumstances, the rally was restructured into a Saudi based event. HERO-ERA was able to run the rally centered around the western part of Saudi Arabia 🏜️, away from any conflict in the region, with a large portion following the original planned route.

The rally showcased the resilience of competitors, who navigated across deserts and mountains ⛰️ and endured extreme conditions. However, this was just the rugged test that at least half of the field craved as a shake down to the 2028 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge 🛣️ which, according to HERO-ERA, will be the longest and most adventurous yet.

Richard Clark and Jonathan Round secured overall victory 🏆 in their Ford V8 Coupe after a dominant performance throughout the rally, while Xavier and Lucas de Sarrau claimed the Classic Category win in a Prodrive-prepared Ford Mustang. 🚘

The event highlighted not only the endurance of the competitors but also the continued appeal of long-distance historic rallying 🌟

Some vehicles are not just built to be driven, they are designed to imagine the future.

François Melcion presents a unique Citroën prototype from 1980, a one-off model that anticipated key innovations in automotive design, from its central driving position to advanced electronics far ahead of its time.

Never put into production, this exceptional car remains perfectly preserved, offering a glimpse into how visionary concepts can influence generations of vehicles to come.

Historic vehicles are more than objects, they are part of our shared cultural heritage.

Davide Grosso highlights the strong connection between FIVA and the UNESCO NGO Liaison Committee, emphasizing how historic vehicles embody knowledge, human ingenuity, and cultural identity.

Beyond their physical form, these vehicles connect people, generations, and expertise, making them a form of intangible heritage that deserves recognition, preservation, and transmission.
