Today is September 1st, and we can declare summer over, along with the holiday spirit that keeps us away from work, at least in our hearts. However, I haven't sat idly by, giving in to the lure of good weather. Here I am, answering those who were wondering what happened to the Porsche 917s, with images of the bodies ready for the painting phase, and with the model with opening doors that will have to undergo the challenging work on the door hinges. This required significant refinement of the rebates and the contours of the openings. There must be no obvious gaps, and they must take into account the paint thickness. I can't wait to put the final touches to this project, which required the study of new techniques and work on the kit that I can now call radical. But that's the beauty of the game.

After much work, the body is finally ready. It was truly a radical intervention, and I risked completely altering Vincenzo Bosica's lines, something I never intended to do. My work philosophy is to respect the characteristics of high-end kits like this one; I want to preserve the collectible value of this type of kit. In my opinion, it makes no sense to distort kits that cost several hundred euros, if not thousands. So I carefully studied the necessary interventions, albeit with some apprehension. I'm quite satisfied; now I'll move on to the washprimer with phosphoric acid to passivate the metal, and then to the correction of the small marks on the body. One phase, the longest, ends and another, shorter but no less important, begins: the coloring.

I try to take decent photos, but I'm running into one of my limitations. White is a difficult color for me to capture. One step that got me thinking was making the drip rails above the side windows. In the kit, they weren't regular and precise; they disturbed the lines and, to be honest, prevented me from working on the symmetry of the windows. Making them was fairly quick and easy. I used 0.4mm annealed copper wire, which is more ductile than brass, and soldered it to the roof using small pieces of solder. I used a very high temperature, 450°C, which allows me to be very fast but requires me to carefully monitor the temperature to avoid melting everything else. I think they turned out quite well.

Bosica's 288GTO kit was designed a few decades ago and is obviously showing signs of age. The photoetched parts on the side window frames are too delicate and the wrong size, considered by many assemblers to be the kit's main flaw. I immediately realized that the entire assembly would need a radical overhaul. I began by reshaping the window openings to make the right side perfectly match the left, welding a brass support inside that will be hollowed out to form a recess for the actual frames. Finally, I created the actual frames using a plasticard template to draw two 0.3mm brass shapes. The two pieces are then welded together on a brass plate and hand-worked with my precious Vallorbe files. Once unsoldered, they are perfectly identical and fit precisely into their seats. The rear deflectors will undergo the same treatment. I know, it's a long process that would be easier and quicker with modern techniques, but this is what I know how to do, using my hands.
