The SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers)
Collegiate Club was formed in 2008. The SAE provides a
platform for those students interested in the field of automobile engineering. At SAE, one can not only learn the nuances of automobile design
but also how fabrication is done practically. It is one of the most
active clubs in the college with about 500 members in its first four
years..!! The founding
members of the SAE club had first fabricated a go-kart using a
150cc scooter engine which garnered the interests of students and brought about the inception of the SAE Collegiate club. The club later went on to design and fabricate a racer car using a Maruti 800cc engine which was displayed
at VJTI’s technical festival, Technovanza. After gaining some valuable
real time experience, a team named 'TEAM MOTORBREATH' of 15 students representing the SAE VJTI Collegiate Chapter participated in BAJA 2010. BAJA is an automobile engineering design competition,where a team comprising of students has to design, manufacture and even race an off-road vehicle which can negotiate dirty tracks and bad roads with the utmost ease. The competition consists of static events like the presentation round and dynamic events like the acceleration,speed, hill climb, maneuverability, brake test and the endurance run.The team’s performance was decent at BAJA 2010 and even though they did not win the completion on paper, they gained some valuable experience. The team won the “Best Concept Car” award at Relio Quick Auto Mall at BKC, MMRDA grounds.Following the footsteps of the seniors the juniors successfully designed and fabricated the ATV and participated in BAJA 2012 which was yet another success story for the club as well as the college. The team was one of the few teams that qualified for the main event amongst 250 teams participating across the entire nation.They finally finished 33rd in the event and won 'Raftaar Award' worth 50000INR for winning the acceleration events. Team MotorBreath then went ahead for a Formula Race styled competition, SUPRA 14! It was held at the Madras Race Track in Chennai and our Team returned with flying colours and a taste of victory in the non technical section of Business Presentation! Riding on a fresh first prize and fueled by loads of passion, We shall strive to make our name in various auto competitions! GO SAE !! GO VJ !!
