๐จ **UPI IS CHANGING โ BUT NOT THE WAY YOU THINK!** ๐ฒ
From **15 OCTOBER 2026**, a new UPI **MDR framework** will apply to certain merchant payments.
But before you panic about your next UPI paymentโฆ **READ THIS ๐**
๐ฅ **PAY โน2,000 OR LESS TO A MERCHANT?**
โก๏ธ **NO MDR**
๐ฅ **SEND MONEY TO FRIENDS OR FAMILY?**
โก๏ธ **STILL FREE**
๐ฅ **MERCHANT PAYMENT ABOVE โน2,000?**
โก๏ธ **0.4% MDR may apply to eligible transactions**
๐ฅ **โน3,000 PAYMENT?**
โก๏ธ MDR = **โน12** on the merchant side
๐ฅ **โน50,000 PAYMENT?**
โก๏ธ MDR = **โน200**
๐ฅ **โน75,000 OR MORE?**
โก๏ธ Maximum MDR = **โน300**
โ ๏ธ **HERE'S THE PART MANY PEOPLE MAY MISS:**
This is **NOT a new UPI tax on customers.**
The MDR is a charge within the merchant-payment ecosystem. The government says customers should **not be charged separately** for it.
๐ช **SMALL MERCHANTS ALSO GET PROTECTION**
Eligible small merchants receiving up to **โน1 lakh per month through UPI QR** can continue with **zero MDR**.
๐ And according to the Government's clarification, around **96% of P2M transactions are expected to remain unaffected**.
So the real question isn't:
โ โWill UPI become chargeable for everyone?โ
It's:
๐ **โWhich UPI transactions will actually attract MDR?โ**
