The Common E20 Petrol Problems:
Drop in Mileage: A 5–10% decrease in fuel economy because ethanol carries lower energy density than pure petrol.
Moisture Buildup & Corrosion: Ethanol is hygroscopic (absorbs atmospheric moisture), causing phase separation that can rust steel fuel tanks and lines.
Material Degradation: Ethanol dissolves or swells non-resistant rubber fuel hoses, gaskets, and pump seals in older engines.
Clogged Injectors: Dislodged rust and carbon deposits travel through the fuel system, clogging filters and injectors.
The Practical Solutions:
Add Ethanol-Stabilizing Fuel Additives: Use PEA-based fuel additives regularly to clean fuel injectors and minimize moisture buildup.
Upgrade Critical Parts: Replace standard nitrile fuel hoses with ethanol-resistant Viton/PTFE hoses if driving an older model.
Increase Maintenance Frequency: Inspect spark plugs, change the fuel filter more often, and use E20-compatible engine oil.
Avoid Stagnant Petrol: Keep your tank filled if riding regularly, but avoid letting fuel sit unused for long periods to stop moisture accumulation.
