Vishwakarma Jayanti is a day of celebration for Vishwakarma, a Hindu god, the divine architect. He is considered as swayambhu and creator of the world. He constructed the holy city of Dwarka where Krishna ruled, the Maya Sabha of the Pandavas, and was the creator of many fabulous weapons for the gods. He is also called the divine carpenter, is mentioned in the Rig Veda, and is credited with Sthapatya Veda, the science of mechanics and architecture.

The festival is observed primarily in factories and industrial areas, often on the shop floor. As a mark of reverence the day of worship is marked not only by the engineering and architectural community but by artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, industrial workers, factory workers and others. They pray for a better future, safe working conditions and, above all, success in their respective fields. Workers also pray for the smooth functioning of various machines.

Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who was fondly called Sir MV, was literally the builder of India, the builder of dams and water systems, to be precise, which not only boosted irrigation facilities but also saved a large number of people from floods. He was an engineering pioneer of India whose genius reflected in harnessing of water resources and building and consolidation of dams across the country.

Every year India celebrates Engineer's Day on September 15, the birth anniversary of Visvesvaraya.

He went on to become India's most prolific civil engineer, dam builder, economist and statesman. He was one of the most prominent builders of India in the 20th century.

When Visvesvaraya was the Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918, he transformed the state into what was then known as a 'model state'. For his numerous industrial, economic and social projects, he was called "Father of Modern Mysore".

Visvesvaraya was also the chief engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore, the biggest in Asia at that time. In 1909, when the city of Hyderabad was in danger of getting flooded, Visvesvaraya was appointed as special consultant engineer to make the city flood-proof. His inventive engineering work saved the Visakhapatnam port from sea erosion.

Visvesvaraya is credited with inventing the block system, automated doors that close the water installed at the Khadakwasla reservoir in Pune in 1903.

Visvesvaraya established Government Engineering College in 1917 in Bengaluru which was later named University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering in his honour.

Due to his outstanding contribution to the building of India, the government conferred 'Bharat Ratna' King George V, which put the honorific on him in 1955. He was also awarded the British knighthood by
'sir' before his name.

This is the same engine that was first attempted in 1862.
After 14 years of research and development Otto succeeded in creating the compressed charge internal combustion engine on May 9, 1876. Otto found a way to layer the fuel mixture into the cylinder to cause the fuel to burn in a progressive, as opposed to explosive fashion. He referred to this as being a layered or stratified charge. This resulted in controlled combustion and a longer push of the piston in the cylinder rather than the explosion which destroyed all the engines attempted previously.
The cylinder arrangement of the compression engine was horizontal. It featured a slider valve control with gas flame ignition,
In the 15 years prior to the development of the Otto engine power output never exceeded 3 hp. In a few years after the Otto engine was developed engine power rose until it reached 1000 hp.
This engine used four cycles in its creation of power which is based on the theory of Otto cycle designed by sir Nicolaus Otto.

Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot was a french inventor who built the first self-propelled mechanical land vehicle or automobile in 1769.

(steam dray)
a three-wheeled machine with a top speed of around 3 km/h (2 mph) originally designed for hauling artillery.

Cugnot’s vehicle was a huge, heavy, steam-powered tricycle, and his model of 1769 was said to have run for 20 minutes at 2.25 miles (3.6 km per hour) while carrying four people and to have recuperated sufficient steam power to move again after standing for 20 minutes.
This was a heavy vehicle that was extremely slow-moving. In addition to its slow gait, the vehicle was forced to stop every fifteen minutes to build up steam.
The vehicle was reported to have been very unstable owing to poor weight distribution, a serious disadvantage for a vehicle intended to be able to traverse rough terrain and climb steep hills. In addition, boiler performance was also particularly poor, even by the standards of the day.
Afterwards Cugnot's vehicles were followed by other advances in steam car technology. In 1784 William Murdoch developed a steam carriage. In 1789 Oliver Evans received the first U.S. patent for a steam-powered vehicle.
