Earlier this week we heard of Google Fit to compete with Healthkit, and new reports suggest the search giant is working on Auto Link in response to Apple’s CarPlay. Some sources tell Autonews Google’s new system will now project content and information from your Android to your car dashboard.

Internally known as Auto Link, it is the first project from the Open Automative Alliance that includes Google, Nvidia, and car-makers like GM, Honda, and Hyundai, adds the report. The aim of Automotive Alliance is to bring Android platform to cars starting in 2014. Google plans to unvel the platform at the I/O to be held next week. However, it may not disclose any partners.

In March, Apple launched CarPlay, its software platform to give iPhone users unprecedented integration with iOS in automobiles. With CarPlay, users will have a new way to make calls and reply to messages within the car, use Apple Maps for navigation, and listen to music through their iTunes account. It had teamed up with car makers like Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo to debut CarPlay.

At the BUILD conference, Microsoft also unveiled its Windows for car concept. Though work on the project was in an early stage, it was quite clear that the company was trying to take on Apple’s CarPlay offering, as well as keeping an eye on Google’s Android in the Car project. Just like Apple and Google are trying to take their respective phone OSes into the car, Microsoft reportedly also plans to take Modern UI and “Live Tiles” from its Windows Phone OS into the car’s entertainment console interface.

In a bid to stay in the connected cars race, we wouldn’t be surprised if Google unveils the alleged Auto Link next week. Last month, the company also gave us a glimpse of its self-driving car prototype. Here’s everything you need to know about Google’s self-driving car.
