Motoverse in retrospect. Part 5: At Gotadki Motors, Belagavi, with Sushim Gotadki, Anand and others checking out the best rides for older people from the newest range from Royal Enfield.

The stopover at Dharwad, meant that we had to rush thru our programme here before we left for Vagator (Goa).

Sushim on a Classic 650 twin, Anand on his shotgun 650 and Ananth on his Himalayan, accompanied us down the ghats and into the unorganised traffic in Goa. Our thanks to them for this.

Ananth was filming us down the ghats with a DJI gimble in one hand!!! On review found to be a dangerous ride as he was riding with one hand on the very sharply curvy roads in the ghat section. All expert riders and we were trying their patience with our 'Super' Cast Iron 350!!! Our thanks to them. Edited videos comin up shortly.

Motoverse 2025 in retrospect: Part 4. Meeting Sushim Gotadki, of Gotadki Motors Belagavi, after a year.

Met with Sushim and family in their extraordinary home for breakfast. You have to be in there to believe that this is possible. He has two very truly vintage cars parked inside his home (One huge fella on the first floor!!!) Some really wonderful interaction with the family. Anand Telkar was also there to greet us.

Motoverse 2025 in retrospect: Part 3: RE service: Never Alone on the Road!!!

In the morning after the breakdown, with Sushim's introduction Mr. Savan's SCN motors swung into action towing our old faithful back to their workshop. The wiring was found to be old, damaged and faulty.

The mechanics at SCN motors hadn't seen many Cast Irons before this. But to our good fortune, Royal Enfield's flying mechanic Diwakar was in town to handle two other difficult cases. The fifty year old expert, (who had worked on cast irons since he was 10 years old) took charge of the handling of our old relic!

Fortunately, all the required spares were available with the Dharwad distributor, and were arranged for before the lunch break was thru!

Long story short, they set the motorcycle completely back to factory standards in half a day and the motorcycle was ready for delivery at 6 pm.

Considering our age and mission, SCN Motors only charged us for the spares. No service charges!!! Our thanks to them. And special thanks to Diwakar & mechanic Vishal. The flying mechanic from Royal Enfield (Diwakar in this case) was a God sent blessing to 'broke down' complicated cases like ours!

Out thanks to Sushim, Savan, flying mechanic Diwakar and team SCN.

Motoverse 2025 in retrospect: Part 2: Team S&J.

Ride from Chennai to Bangalore and Dharwad. The highlight was an electrical failure after we reached our destination.

We left Chennai two days early to beat the rain forecasted for a week due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal. After a late start, we got to Banglore and after a two days there, proceeded to Dharwad. The motorcycle got us into the town and then shut down with an electrical failure. With the help of Sulekha's cousin and a friend, we parked the motorcycle in a Shell Petrol Bunk. And turned in for the night.

We then got in touch with our friend Sushim Gotadki, the RE Dealership owner in Belagavi who spoke to his friend Savan Naregal, the RE Dealership Owner in Dharwad, who arranged to have the motorcycle taken in the first thing next morning

Stopped en route for a sandwich break. Made good time as the highway in Tamilnadu was super good. Good signage to follow and the 'Map my India' worked perfectly!

Motoverse and beyond. An oil top up on the last leg!

If you are riding a 1959 design cast iron (even if it is a 2000 model) you had better be prepared for some variations from normal riding.

You have to be able to feel the pulse of the motorcycle. You have to read the strain on the engine while you are on the highway and you have to connect with your machine from your heart.

The vibrations at 90 kmph slightly differing from just before an hour told me that the oil was 200ml below requirement. Seen here filling approximately 250 ml of oil with an improvised funnel! Long live RE cast irons!!! 🤗🤗💪

Motoverse and beyond! Good Highway, good breakfast and not enough sleep the previous night in Hampi. Result: almost fell asleep on the motorcycle.

Fighting off sleep with a couple of shots of strong tea. Result? Non stop ride to Bangalore and for 5 hours more, in chocker block traffic, inching forward towards destination! Not for the faint hearted!!! But we made it in one piece all the same!!!

Motoverse and beyond. Riding from Hampi to Bangalore. Wonderful highway. Stopped off for a breather.

Motoverse and beyond. Shooting the incomplete structures and ruins of Hampi. Slowly realising that though this location lends itself to good photography, there are a large number of these monuments without being completed!

Amazing all the same!

On the way to Hampi. Saw this neat little shop by the Highway. Wishing them well! We stopped to stretch our legs.
