Gaurav Gill, The Arjuna Award and his win for Indian Motorsports!
Gaurav Gill was born on 2 December 1981. He got into motorsport racing motorbikes and competed in the National Motocross Championship in 1999. He moved to 4-wheel racing and started competing in car rallies and endurance races. He was runner-up in the National Road Racing Championship in 2003 and won the title in the following year.
In 2007, Gaurav won the National Rally Championship with Team MRF and made his debut at the Asia Pacific Rally Championship. Gaurav Gill dominated the rally scene in India and went on to win The Indian National Championship 5 more times in the years 2009, 2011, 2014, 2017 and 2018.
He became the first Indian to win the Asia Pacific Rally Championship title in 2013 supported by Team MRF Skoda and also became multiple APRC champion by winning in total 3 APRC championship titles in the years 2013, 2016 and 2017.
In 2018 Gaurav Gill debuted on The World Rally Stages with the support of MRF in collaboration with M-Sport in The Ford Fiesta R5 and proved to be competitive in the WRC2 class.
In August 2019, proud Indian Gaurav Gill was nominated for the Arjuna Award. The Arjuna Awards are given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India to recognize outstanding achievement in sports. Started in 1961, the award carries a cash prize of ₹500,000, a bronze statue of Arjuna and a scroll.
In a country where Motorsports lacks the much needed attention and support, Gaurav Gill fought his battles hard to successfully became the first motorsports personality in India to be nominated for The Arjuna award, thereby giving Indian motorsports a higher recognition in terms of effort and achievement, paving way for success and growth not only for himself as a motorsports personality, but for the entire Indian Motorsports Fraternity.
