If you turn the steering wheel all the way and hold it there when making a turn, you risk bursting a pipe in the power steering system. When you reach the end of the steering wheel's turning ability, take it back just a bit.

When parking on a slope, always turn your steering wheel towards the sidewalk. If the brake fails to hold, your car will not slide downhill and maybe hit another car, but will quickly be stopped by the curbstones.

Drive as smoothly as you can to save on your fuel costs. Changes in your engine's RPM are the most gas-wasteful, and these occur when your transmission switches gears, and especially during quick accelerations or when driving up hills.

Going up a steep road, you will save more gas if you keep the car in low gear. Keeping the pedal to the floor and hearing the roar of high RPM seems wasteful, but letting the gearbox switch between high and low RPM actually eats up more fuel.

Use low gear to slow your car when going down a long steep grade. This will prevent overheating and excessive wear on the brakes. Worn brakes are a safety hazard and require replacement, so keep safe and save money by being gentle with them.

It is OK to turn the steering wheel when your car is not moving, this will not damage your tires.
The habit of avoiding turns while the car is motionless dates from the pre-power-steering days, when it was much easier to turn the steering wheel when the tires were rolling. No nostalgia.
