After much thought and with a mix of emotions, I’ve made the decision to retire and begin the process of winding down Vartry Garage over the next few months.
I started working the day after I left school at 16 years old, and after 42 years of dedication, I feel it’s finally time to step back and give my mind the rest it’s long deserved. Looking back, I’m immensely proud of what we’ve achieved, and I’ve surpassed my wildest dreams. But none of this would have been possible without the incredible people I’ve had the pleasure of working with – and that includes all of you, our loyal customers.
To each and every person who walked through our doors, trusted us with your cars, and supported Vartry Garage over the years – I cannot thank you enough. You made every day worthwhile, and I’ll forever cherish the relationships we’ve built. You’ve been more than customers; you’ve become friends, and I’ll always carry those memories with me.
A heartfelt thanks to our amazing team, both past and present. The hard work, dedication, and care you all put in day in and day out made this place what it was, and I’m so grateful for your support. I am sure you will all go on to do great things.
Working alongside my family has been the most rewarding part of all this. I have been lucky enough to to work with most of my family over the years. In the early years I got to work with my father, uncle and sister and as the business expanded I got the opportunity for my wife, son and daughters to join Vartry Garage, I will always treasure those moments.
My dad and business partner, Mick, I am so grateful for all your support and to share this journey with you. None of this would have been possible without your support and knowing when to give me a kick in the behind when I needed it. And to Ma, for knowing when you needed one too!
To Kia Motors Ireland and The Gowan Group (Peugeot), thank you for your unwavering support throughout the years. Your friendship and assistance have been a cornerstone of our success, and I know you’ll continue to serve Wicklow from a new home in the future.
Paula, my love, thank you for believing in me when we sold our dream home on Church Hill and took the leap into something new. We’re now ready for a new chapter – to cycle, swim, hike, and enjoy all the beauty Wicklow (and beyond) has to offer, one coffee at a time.
While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to this chapter of my life, I’m filled with gratitude for everything we’ve built together. I’ll miss seeing all your faces, but I know the memories and friendships will last forever. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
Forever Grateful,
Mick
