This 2013 bmw 320d came in for a coolant leak, to access the coolant hose that had a crack in it I had to remove the intake manifold in which I found 2 swirl flaps had broken off and started making their way inside the engine as well as the other 2 very worn and about to break off. If these swirl flaps were to travel far enough inside the engine, they could have caused the engine to have a catastrophic failure and would have needed an engine replacement. The swirl flaps are very common to fail on most bmw diesel engines, the best solution is to get rid of them.
