N47 week at O’Brien Motor Works. Everything that could go wrong with an N47 engined BMW we have had this week, timing chain replacements, coked up cylinder heads, oil filter housing leaks, swirl flap failure and one for a full replacement engine.

If you have a 2.0 diesel bmw built between 08 and 2014 it’s got this engine, at O’Brien Motor Works we know them inside and out, literally!

We are fitting a set of genuine auxiliary water pumps to cure a power drain issue, and identified a vacuum leak on one of the boost control solenoid circuits using our in house smoke testing equipment.

This E92 had no functioning headlights, electric windows, wipers, locks or indicators after FRM failure having been left completely deplete its battery. A beautiful E38 728i M Sport we recommissioned recently for its owner. We sorted issues with the DSC unit, solved an existing EML and gave it a thorough maintenance including a full brake system refresh and new steering arms, using genuine parts. We finished it off by NCT’ing the vehicle for the owner and it is now proudly in daily use. It’s great to see an E38 on the road, this one attracted much admiration from customers and visitors to the workshop. We were sad to see it go! This engine was built in house using genuine BMW parts including a new OEM crankshaft, timing kit, with every seal and bearing. It’s ready for road again after a thorough recondition. There are huge gains to be had on modern common rail diesels, the N47 engined E60 gained 33hp and 80nm. The X5 a lot more from its 3.0 N57 engine. We can tune any BMW, contact us for more details.
