When the Plates Are a Deliberate Disguise

A learner driver was stopped after displaying N plates instead of the required L plates — seemingly in an attempt to avoid detection.

The driver was unaccompanied and had no L plates displayed.

The consequences:

- €280 in Fixed Charge Penalty Notices
- 2 penalty points
- Vehicle seized

Trying to disguise your learner status will not make you invisible to Gardaí.

If you are an unaccompanied learner driver, you are breaking the law. There are no shortcuts, no hiding places and no excuses.
