From 1 November 2026, learners in Ireland who are on their fifth learner permit will not be able to renew it under the new rules. This is particularly important for people who drive their own cars regularly on a learner permit, because once their permit expires, they cannot legally continue driving on it.
For anyone who is currently driving their own cars and will be affected by the new rule changes, there is still time and ways to get your full licence before starting over from the start. For more information or to book in you can whatsapp me on 083-1142537
Changes to multiple learner permits take effect from 1 November 2026.
If you're applying for a third or fourth learner permit, you must have taken a driving test within the previous two years.
Simply booking a test or being on a waiting list is not enough.
If you reach the end of your fourth or subsequent learner permit and need to continue learning, you may be required to restart the learning-to-drive process.
If you're on your second, third or subsequent learner permit, check how the changes may affect you and plan ahead.
