The Alliance for Automotive Innovation, which represents major automakers including GM, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Honda and Stellantis, is urging the U.S. Congress to permanently ban the sale, import and manufacture of Chinese connected vehicles, hardware and software in the country. In a letter to senior congressional leaders, Alliance CEO John Bozzella cited concerns over China’s government subsidies, intellectual property theft, surveillance and the growing global presence of Chinese automakers, warning that connected vehicles could collect and transmit sensitive consumer and vehicle data. The group wants Congress to pass legislation before the end of 2026, arguing that a permanent ban is needed to address both national security and economic concerns as Chinese brands such as BYD and Geely continue expanding in markets around the world.
