National Automotive 3/90 Branch National Automotive 3/90 Branch. Fighting for jobs, pay and conditions. Are you a Mechanic in Ireland? Are you tired of the low wages and lack of benefits e.g.

sick leave, pension, overtime? Is there health and safety concerns in your workplace? Or are you being undercut by unqualified workers? We are in one of the most technologically advanced trades, one which is constantly evolving and one in which we continuously need to adapt. This has never been reflected in our salary and it's something I feel needs to change. We took pay cuts in the recession or were driven abroad to seek work. Now sales are booming and we have not seen this reflected in our wages. Unlike other trades there has never been a strong union presence within the motor industry and this page is aimed at opening up discussion on how we can improve our lot. I have spoken to mechanics across the industry who all feel the same. We need to come together or we won't be heard. It's time we got what we are due and stopped lagging behind the other trades. Please share this page and add your work buddies so that we can open up this discussion.

Public sector workers from every grade were out on picket lines across the country yesterday, standing together and taking action for better pay. They’re showing what can be achieved when workers organise and stand up for themselves. They will win.

Unite is currently engaged in talks on behalf of members in the mechanical sector, including plumbers and fitters, to secure an increase in their legally enforceable minimum rates of pay. An increase below inflation will not be accepted. These workers will secure an increase, and their rates already far exceed those of motor mechanics.

Even the minimum wage is set to increase, yet mechanics’ wages remain stagnant. When inflation is taken into account, their wages are effectively falling year after year.

We’re visiting garages every day, speaking directly to mechanics. The message is clear: most agree that something needs to change. The problem is that too many are still standing alone. No one is giving motor mechanics a voice. Unite can.

The first step is to join the union. Together, we can organise, demand better pay and conditions, and win the recognition this skilled trade deserves.

Let’s organise. Let’s stand together. Let’s win! 💪

Over the past two days, we’ve visited some of the Frank Keane garages across Dublin. There was some great engagement where access was possible, and we’ll be returning to the gates of those garages where access was denied.

If anyone wants to discuss any of the issues raised in more detail, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Tool allowances, rates of pay and better conditions — it’s all up for grabs! We can organise, we can stand together, and we can win better pay and conditions for mechanics.

Tomorrow, Unite will be out supporting public sector workers. It’s time for mechanics to take up the fight for what they deserve ✊

Unite were on the gate at Joe Duffy BMW Airside this morning handing out leaflets. There was good engagement. Mechanics need to realise their power and their worth. Join Unite the Union, organise, and win ✊

It’s becoming increasingly difficult for young people in Ireland to access apprenticeships, according to construction industry professionals.

What does the Irish motor trade look like for the young skilled lads coming up?

More of the same, head in sand, reactive and lacklustre oversight, OR a dynamic, fairly paid, respected and regulated aftermarket not focused on unit sales, shoehorning the public into BEV'S and P*P'S and utilising Ireland's vast talented workforce to its full potential?

Anyone in the autotmotive industry who wants to be part of our movement for change, jump on board the National Automotive Branch today!

Out on the road in Mullingar and North County Dublin last week talking with independent garages, mechanics and technicians, all of whom are flat out busy in the run up to Christmas. The hot topic is REGULATION, or the lack thereof, in the motor trade.

The National Automotive 3/90 Branch continues positioning itself as the united voice for long overdue change in the sector.

🚫 Selling cars and driving the public into BEVs and P*P finance should not be the sole focus.

👌Creating an attractive, fairly paid and respected motor industry MUST be.

Start the conversation about REGULATION in your garages and jump on board with us today!

Productive discussion yesterday down in Waterford ETB about the challenges facing mechanics and apprentices.

Lots of engaged mechanics working in independent shops frustrated with the lack of regulation in the sector, concern about undercutting and potentially dangerous working practices by unqualified workers.

What could regulation look like for mechanics? A register? A kitemark of quality? What effect would regulation have on the trade?
