Toyota has just walked away with the efficiency crown at EV Rally Cymru, entering their all-electric C-HR+ against a mixed grid of cars, vans, and commercial haulers. Over two solid days of navigating the length and breadth of Wales, it didn’t just win; it practically redefined what’s possible with careful driving.

A few standout details from the run:

• 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙪𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙨: An independently verified 𝟳.𝟲𝟱 𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙨/𝙠𝙒𝙝. Against an official WLTP rating of 4.64 miles/kWh, that is an enormous jump. On its 77kWh pack, running at that pace theoretically puts 500+ miles on the table (far beyond its 377-mile official range).

• 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙡-𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙘: It wasn’t a stripped-out engineering mule on bicycle tyres either. It was a bog-standard showroom Design spec on 18-inch wheels.

• 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨: Hypermiling veteran Richard Seymour teamed up with creator Rod Kirkpatrick for the rally legs, before handing over the keys to newly crowned World Rally Champion Elfyn Evans to cross the finish line at Toyota’s Deeside plant.

Obviously, hypermiling in a regulated rally setup isn't how the average driver tackles a wet Monday school run or a 70mph motorway blast. But results like this serve a very real purpose: they bust the persistent myth that electric SUVs are inherently bloated, inefficient bricks, and highlight just how much energy management and driving style dictate range.
