After nearly four decades behind the wheel as a driving instructor, I will be retiring next week. I want to offer my heartfelt thanks to every pupil who chose to learn with me over the years. It has been a privilege to help so many people take their first steps towards independence and confidence on the road. Your trust, your effort, and your stories have made this journey truly rewarding, and I am deeply grateful for the support I’ve received throughout my career. Thank you again. Declan

New Shared Space Signage launched today will alert road users they are entering a low-speed space which is shared by pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.

The measures are designed to reduce the dominance of motor vehicles in these areas.

Do you know how to approach a courtesy crossing as a pedestrian and a motorist?

Pedestrians 🚶
Pedestrians should only enter uncontrolled crossing places (courtesy crossing)
ensuring that all traffic is aware of their presence if crossing the road.
Motorists 🚗
Motorists entering uncontrolled crossing places (courtesy crossing) should react
by driving very slowly, aware of the potential dangers of pedestrians using the area

Again under Level 5 restrictions Approved Driving Instructors (ADI) may only give driving lessons to people who have an actual appointment for their driving test. Due to the very high risk of transmission of the Virus when in such close proximity during a lesson or or test. It is very important that pupils should consider if it is appropriate to take lessons before their test or even sit their test. Remember that .25 of a metre is a long way off from 2 metres. And this is in an enclosed space for one hour. "Just a thought"

Total confusion here. Out of the blue on Friday evening it was announced that driving schools could reopen and driving test would start. But on Friday morning nothing could go ahead. No guidelines in how to protect our customers and ourselves sitting a quarter of a metre from each other. And what will happen when the driving tester needs to use a driving school car? Interesting week ahead with the RSA 's head buried in the sand. We hear about the pubs and the hairdresser's a hundred times a day for the last weeks, and they are important, their livelihood is on the line, but is safety on the roads not as equally important? Share this post if you think getting people back driving safely is important.

A date for the resumption of driver testing services is currently being examined.

However, the resumption of driver tests raises particular difficulties due to the need to have two people in close proximity in a confined space, for a considerable period of time. I anticipate for this reason that the driving test may be one of the last of the RSA services to resume," Mr Ross said.
