The Classic Mechanic Hungary

The Classic Mechanic Hungary Specialists in the highest quality bare metal nut and bolt full restorations of Jaguar E-Type and XJ-S cars from the EU & UK. Making Jaguars Great Again.

Laszlo Izso, aka Classic Mechanic Laz, is the founder of The Classic Mechanic business. Initially based in Macclesfield, Cheshire, in the UK, Laz and his family relocated to their homeland of Hungary in 2019. British businessman, XJ-S collector and friend, Simon Spurrell, invested in the company and became a partner. We specialise in the restoration of E-Type and XJ-S cars, delivering an exception

ally high standard of detail and craftsmanship. Our focus is not on restoring cars for resale; instead, we aim to make them look better than new, ensuring they can last another 50 years.

This E-Type had been previously restored, and from a distance, it looked to be in good condition. However, the previous restoration, instead of restoring the metal to its original shape, involved covering it with filler. When we blasted it, this revealed the damaged areas. Since we never use filler, Laz panel-beated and fabricated the sections, which will, where necessary, be lead-loaded as per factory standards specification.

Some modifications to the XJ-S V12 Arden engine rebuild with E10 compatible hoses being fitted to future proof the car. An aesthetic modification we like to make to the already excellent Fen Air air con kit is to replace the rubber hose with a zinc coated metal version that Laz fabricated to keep the engine bay neat and tidy.

Why do people choose Hungary for their XJ-S restoration? Because we are true specialist restorers and we are considered even by other restorers to be one of the best in the world because we do every part of the nut and bolt processes. Like for like costs we are about 20% less due to the currency difference.

Jaguar Arden XJ-S V12 with a seized ignition distributor. As part of the total engine rebuild, Laz needed to strip it down because the internal automatic advance system didn't move as freely as it should. It needed a full strip-down, and the star wheel was seized onto the distributor shaft.
He had to use a puller and an induction heater several times to free it. Once free, he cleaned and lubricated it before rebuilding the distributor.
He fitted a new plastic shield, a new rotor arm, and a new cap. He refitted it back onto the engine with a new ignition lead set.

Jaguar E-Type Series 3 nut and bolt restoration continues. At this level it's all about the detail even the bits you cannot see including the inner and outer sills. The seams are separated and repaired and treated before being spot welded to look exactly like the factory finish. This is the only way to truly remove every bit of corrosion.

The Classic Mechanic - A Passion for Perfection

I am Laszlo Izso and I am the founder of the Classic Mechanic restoration business. I am a qualified Vehicle Technician with over 20 years experience working with modern, classic, and vintage cars. I am originally from Hungary and lived in the UK for seven years with my wife and young family. I previously worked for a car restoration workshop for many years where I had the pleasure of fully restoring and rebuilding cars including a 1936 Vauxhall, several early VW Beetle models, a Jensen Interceptor, a De Lorean, a Rolls Royce, a Toyota Land Cruiser, a BMW E30 and even a Multicar Fire Engine.

In 2019 I moved the business back home to Hungary from the UK. The overheads are so much lower in Hungary we are still very competitive for partial or full restorations as the hourly rate in much lower. My business partner Simon Spurrell directs the UK side of our operation, he will talk to you and assess your car for estimate and suitability for Hungarian restoration. We both pride ourselves in our attention to detail and authentic quality of restoration and repair work on any make or model of classic and vintage car. We pride ourselves on our reputation and trustworthy honest professionalism. We are dedicated to repairing and restoring your car properly and in a transparent and timely manner.

Our promise is our bond and we will work with you, keeping you fully informed of all progress and associated costs on a daily or weekly basis. Classic and vintage cars are our obsession and passion and as you can see by our gallery our work speaks for itself.

Please contact us to discuss your restoration project, we need plenty of photographs and information to assess the suitability and provide a budget. We look forward to working with all of our customers and their precious cars whether it is a Mini, a Volkswagen or a Lamborghini.
