Successful Debut Electric Racing in Hong Kong - Continuous Event is Looking Forward

First ever 2016 Formula E Champion and E Touring Car Challenge had been successfully held in Hong Kong Central Harbourfront on 8th and 9th October. Thanks to the cooperation of Lawrence Yu Kam-kee , Chief of Hong Kong Automobile Association and Mr. Alan Fang, CEO of Formula Electric Racing (Hong Kong) Limited. In addition to the participation of Mr Gregory SO Kam-leung, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, the event was embellished. Moreover, the first page of the book will not be done so well without the full support from Hong Kong government.

Kenneth Ma, founder of Formula Racing Development explained that, “Other than Formula E, E Touring Car Challenge is the first ever motorsport racing with electric compact car in the world, which makes Hong Kong to become the first city to have two race days in Formula E Series. Celebrities and professional drivers made their debut appearance with over 20,000 audiences and support from sponsors, bringing along a miracle and a long awaited dream for Hong Kong public. As soon as we know that we will be hosting a supporting race within Formula E race, we promptly get in touch with different parties and achieve what we are going to do for the event. I would like to thank for the support from Hong Kong government and hopefully we can continue this atmosphere.”

It is not a dream anymore, while FERHK and FRD will continue developing and promoting different kinds of motorsport events with the government. Let’s hope this tiny little city will become “Metropolis of Motosports” soon.

Quiet dashing in the crowded city - E Touring Car Challenge in 5 days

World’s debut race - E Touring Car Challenge will be starting off in Central, Hong Kong 5 days later as a supporting race of FIA Formula E Hong Kong ePrix. At this moment all cars are under final preparation and the drivers’ list is confirmed with "King of the Stage" AARON KWOK、Singer PAKHO CHAU、action movie director CHIN KA-LOK、artist ALEX FONG and JACQUELINE CHONG and 11 veteran HK drivers. Since this will be everyone’s first trial to race with an electric vehicle. The result should shock all the crowd.

The circuit of FIA Formula E Hong Kong ePrix, Central Harbourfront is an urban track of approximately 1.8km with 10 turns (2 hairpin turns). The main straight is 555m long, and the following 90° corner will be the critical point for the drivers to take the lead in the lap time. Although E-Golf does not produce a lot of horsepower, but maintaining high speed at the corner exits will be the best strategy to win in the race.

Come join us on 8th October in Central!

Down but not out

Changan Ford Racing Team endured a tough day at the office but still managed to maintain its overall lead in the Super Production 2.0T class of the 2016 China Touring Car Championship. In a messy affair right from the start, race one winner Yue Cui was one of six competitors who recorded a ‘DNF’ today. The Shanghai native who was representing Changan Ford Racing Team for the first time, was forced to retire from the race shortly after the start when a rival car made contact causing severe damage to Yue’s vehicle, eliminating all hope for the 26-year-old to be on the winners’ podium for a second time this week in Shanghai.

Carrying a total of 435 kg in success Ballasts between them, the formidable trio of Rainey He, Martin Cao, and Andy Yao understood the magnitude of the challenge ahead and fought gallantly to defend their positions. Cao came away the best for Changan Ford Racing Team in eighth, with Yan one place behind. Team Captain He, who was himself on the receiving end of some less than desirable driving by competitor vehicles, came home in 11th position.

Guoqian Zhong, Team Manager of Changan Ford Racing Team, said:

“We are a little disappointed with how the race turned out today. With Yue Cui driving the way he is, and the fact that his car didn’t carry any extra weight, we had high hopes of him scoring significantly for us today. He had barely started and was looking for a good position to settle into the race when he was forced out and we are in the process of lodging a compliant to make sure justice is done.”

“With our core team of Rainey, Martin and Andy, our target was top eight finishes for them, and although we didn’t quite manage it, we were able to garner enough points to keep us at the top of the manufacturers’ championship. We are a very determined team and we will be ready to fight again at the next round,” Zhong added.

Following round six at the Shanghai International Circuit, He, Yan and Cao lie in second, third, and fourth in the drivers’ championship of the Super Production 2.0T class of the 2016 China Touring Car Championship respectively.

Yue Cui wins for Changan Ford Racing Team

Changan Ford Racing Team debutant Yue Cui will head into the final race of the Super Production 2.0T class at round six of the 2016 China Touring Car Championship (CTCC) in confident mood after easing to a fine victory in the first race earlier today. On his madien CTCC outing this season, the 26-year-old put in a flawless display to lead from start to finish and scored maximum points for the team, which also includes Andy Yan, Rainey He and Martin Cao.

The Shanghai-native said:“I feel great right now, and absolutely elated to have won my first race. It has been such a honour driving with the guys who represent Changan Ford Racing Team, who are all consummate professionals and passionate in what they do. We support each other very well, and with the excellent start I had, I was able to breeze through the track and deliver for the team. I look forward to tomorrow and hope I can play my part to help Changan Ford Racing Team get closer to winning the overall manufacturers’ championship.”

Carrying a combined total of 435 KG in success ballasts, the heaviest across all the competitors, Yan, He, and Cao rallied to cross the finishing line in 10th, 12th and 15th places respectively. A big track like the Shanghai International Circuit with high acceleration points will always favour the lighter cars but the determined th*****me was able to utilise their race experience and technical know-how to outperform expectations for the team, while at the same time, continue to dominate the drivers’ championship.
The second and final race of round 6 of the China Touring Car Championship will take place tomorrow at 12:10pm.

The Only Way is Up!

Changan Ford Racing Team has secured encouraging positions on the grid ahead of the all-important races at round six of the 2016 China Touring Car Championship this weekend. Debutant Yue Cui, winner of the last round Andy Yan, current drivers’ championship leader Rainey He, and round three champion Martin Cao were able to show their class despite a total of 435kg in success ballast being imposed on the core members of the team following a dominating season so far.

26-year-old Yue has the best news of the day. The Shanghai-native was able to make full use of his success ballast-free car to storm through his ‘home’ track and finished his qualifying race in the second fastest time of the day. While Andy came 7th, Rainey got the 12th place and Martin on the 16th place.

Brian Ma, Technical Director of Changan Ford Racing Team, said: “I think we can all leave the track today feeling proud of ourselves. It is a job well done by the drivers themselves, and the whole engineering team that have kept the cars in top condition. Even with the 435 KG in success ballasts we had to carry around the track with us, which we knew could cause us some problems, we still managed to have two of our four drivers starting inside the top 10 on the grid. It is an unfortunate situation with Martin that will see him start last on the grid. From my point of view, I don’t believe he deserves that but unfortunately, that is how motor racing goes sometimes. Martin is tough and no doubt we will see him pull something out of the bag during the race tomorrow.”

Changan Ford Racing Team Ready to Dominate Again at Shanghai International Circuit

Changan Ford Racing Team, which is dominating both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ championship at the Super Production 2.0T class of the 2016 China Touring Car Championship, will look to tighten its grip on the prestigious titles this week when the series takes place in Shanghai for the second time this season.

Debutant Yue Cui will join the core drivers of Changan Ford Racing Team, Rainey He, Martin Cao, and Andy Yan to build on the healthy lead they currently hold over their rivals. Success at the China Touring Car Championship comes in the form of success ballasts and He, Cao, and Yan will surely feel the effects of the 435 kg carried between them this week as they race around one of the biggest circuits of the China Touring Car Championship.

26-year-old Yue is enjoying his first outing this year and despite having no experience driving a Changan Ford racing car this season, he produced two breath-taking performances to record the second and fourth fastest times during the two practice rounds.

Brian Ma, Technical Director of Changan Ford Facing Team, said:

“For someone who has not driven our cars or raced on the CTCC this year, I think Yue Cui has done pretty well for himself. Still early days, but to produce the times that he did at practice, it is a true testimonial to the phenomenal driver that he is, and the quality of our cars. And when the two come together, we can expect fireworks on the track.”

He, Cao and Yan are carrying more success ballasts than anyone at the Shanghai International Circuit, round six of eight of the China Touring Car championship. For a big circuit like Shanghai with big acceleration points, heavier cars tend to face a disadvantage. Despite this, Ma is still hopeful for a strong showing at qualifying later today and indeed at the actual races over the course of the weekend.

He added:

“I am pleased with the overall performance by our drivers. Practice sessions are there for us to try different things and to work out our strategy for the races themselves. Rainey, Martin and Andy have proved time and time again just what tough competitors they are, and we are looking forward working out how the success ballasts can work for, rather than against us. We are a great team, and I believe that will shine through this week in Shanghai

Changan Ford Racing Team Discovers the Winning Formula, Again.

The Rainey He-captained Changan Ford Racing Team produced an almost flawless performance in the final race of round five of the 2016 China Touring Car Championship to further extend their lead in the manufacturers’ championship.

The formidable foursome of He, Andy Yan, Martin Cao, Zack Gao, and their engineering team answered all the questions asked of them this week in Guangdong, leaving their rivals to wonder just what they have to do to gain some advantage over the might of the Changan Ford Racing Team.

33-year-old Yan, whose performance has been solid all week, is thrilled to have won the second race and secured maximum points for the team. He said:

“Winning is always satisfying but when you come out on top when the odds are stacked against you, you can never quite express in words that feeling of elation. What we achieved this week is truly a magnificent team effort. With the last race, we knew exactly what each of us had to do. Zack pushed his way up to fourth and worked with Rainey to provide an impenetrable line of defense for Martin and myself to really go for it and secure maximum points. This really puts us in a good position for the championship.”

Brian Ma, Technical Director commented:

“I am lost for words to describe the excitement of what we managed to achieve this week. With the success ballasts, we came to Guangdong with a realistic goal. We managed to succeed all our expectations despite the challenges we faced including successfully repair the damage to three of our cars after race one despite the extremely tight turnaround time. This is a true testimony to the professionalism of our engineers, and the commitment of our crew.”

“It is unfortunate that Rainey wasn’t able to finish the race alongside his teammates, but being the true captain that he is, he will know just how significant his role was today. We look forward to the next race in Shanghai,” Ma added.

After tallying the scores from this weekend, Changan Ford Racing Team will assume the top three positions in the drivers' championship as the tour heads to round six in Shanghai.
