At Vintage Vehicle Mechanic we enjoy sharing a lens into the various aspects of our restoration efforts for our customers who grant us with permission to do so. Recently, we were commissioned to provide a mechanical refresh to the underside of a beautiful specification R107 Mercedes-Benz.

While the instruction to our team was clear, with a huge initial list of new original parts to ordered and fitted, our Senior Mechanic after having inspected the car, had advised that a portion of the existing parts remained strong and would benefit from cosmetic enhancement adequately. Attending to those areas we set forth a sandblasting process, stripping away with high-velocity all molecules of collected contaminants through the years, creating a controlled, uniform matte finish essential for ensuring new paint coating adheres properly.

Examples benefit greatly from restorative attention such as this and we are extensively experienced for restoring quantities of classic cars during our time.

We love the process and the owners of each car we spend time working on truly appreciate their finished product, too.

To the seasoned Mercedes-Benz and vintage car enthusiast, the Mercedes-Benz R107 SL is an ultimate embodiment of timeless, analog luxury. Track pedigree, from the experts of Dieppe, France. The thrilling Renault Megane R26.r.

Ahead of its upcoming listing to market with our sister company Car Farm Hong Kong the car has today been rolled out from long-term storage and into our bays, for a caring overall health check and expectedly passing with flying colours - just like its very rare specification Racing Blue paintwork (also referred to as Dynamo Blue in certain markets) and Capsicum Red alloy wheels.

These cars are a genuine, immersive thrill to pedal, not only on the track, but on any road at sensible speeds, thanks to the lightweight approach of a factory-stripped interior with Lexan glass and carbon front hood; communicative steering; and those frequent turbocharger whooshes utterly distinctive to the F4Rt 16–valve twin-scroll inline-four powerplant.

Ever more desirable these cars have become and this example is truly a collectors piece, with just 10,170 miles recorded on the odometer and presenting in outstanding cosmetic and mechanical condition.

A unicorn from Affalterbach, with us in the VVM stable.

The Mercedes-Benz S210 E55 AMG Estate remains the blueprint for the ultimate sleeper. For all the pure subtlety this car offers, the M113 5.4L V8 emits a deep, mechanical, V8 sound and is widely regarded by enthusiasts as one of the most reliable performance engines Mercedes-Benz ever engineered. Sharp steering for pleasure, underpinned by the self-leveling rear suspension system with hydropneumatic nitrogen accumulators and hydraulic struts, the practical magic of this model is really something special.

When properly sorted, it is characterised by smooth, linear and mechanical power delivery, all the way round to the redline, performance benefitting - and driver’s ears - from the manufacturer individual throttle bodies. Keeping this special icon in flawless condition takes a meticulous ownership mindset. Behind every perfect example, as is this car we have been ongoingly caring for, is a dedicated owner who proactively addresses items to commonly watch for, including, but not limited to, upgrading to strengthened tensioners with appropriate timing chain replacement intervals; shim adjustments inside 15k kilometer intervals to keep the valve clearances quiet; advancing a radiator, water pump and hose refresh to protect highly-sensitive cylinder heads from overheating and potentially warping; and ensuring thrust arm and control arm bushings remain new for a chassis which tracks dead-straight, giving total confidence on the road and never showing infamous high-speed steering wheel vibration, as many roadgoing examples may today suffer with.

This Ferrari F430 was brought to Vintage Vehicle Mechanic with a clear brief: source and fit a full set of carbon-fibre interior and detail parts to the highest standard.
Working to the owner’s specification, we sourced the carbon components piece by piece — centre console and F1 control panel, gear-gate surround, steering-column shroud, dashboard vents, door sills, and matching cabin trim. The same approach was taken in the engine bay and on selected exterior details, including carbon airbox covers, filler caps, rear slats, fuel-filler door and diffuser finishes.
Each part was carefully checked for fit and finish before installation, so the cabin and engine bay present as a complete, coherent specification rather than a collection of unrelated pieces. The result is a sharper, more focused F430 that still reads as a properly finished Ferrari, not an afterthought modification.
Sourcing correct carbon parts for an F430 takes time, contacts and attention to quality. That is the level of work we handle — from mechanical restoration through to specialist parts procurement and installation.

This BMW E30 M3 Evolution II was booked into Vintage Vehicle Mechanic for a thorough chassis and cooling-system refresh.
We renewed the front and rear anti-roll bar links, together with the front sway-bar bushings and brackets and the rear stabilizer mountings. The front struts were removed as a pair so that new strut mounts, bump stops, protection tubes and covers could be fitted correctly, with the springs compressed and reassembled to the proper specification.
Fresh engine and gearbox mounts were installed to restore driveline stability and reduce unwanted movement through the chassis. The exhaust system was also attended to, with new rubber rings and a rear silencer mounting fitted to eliminate vibration and sag.
A more involved part of the job concerned the cooling fans. Following the fuse diagram, we modified the coolant temperature switches, fitted a new relay and renewed sections of wiring so the fans operate reliably. Steering fluid hoses were replaced at the same time.
The result is an Evo II that feels tighter, quieter and more dependable — exactly what a car of this rarity deserves. Work of this kind reflects the detailed mechanical and electrical attention we give to E30 M3s.

This Porsche 968 recently visited Vintage Vehicle Mechanic for a scheduled service and MOT preparation.
We carried out a fresh engine oil change using the correct specification oil, together with a new air filter. These routine items are especially important on the 968, whose 3.0-litre four-cylinder engine rewards careful maintenance with the smooth, linear performance it is known for.
The car was then inspected and prepared for MOT, covering the usual safety, lighting, braking and emissions checks so it can continue to be used with confidence on Hong Kong roads.
The 968 remains one of the most involving front-engined Porsches of its era — a balanced, driver-focused sports car that benefits from regular, specialist attention. Proper servicing keeps the engine healthy, the driving experience sharp, and the car reliable for everyday use.
