Helios - HKU Solar Car Team University of Hong Kong, News of 'New Energy New Generation Solar Car Competition' 2015 In Greek, Helios means the god of the sun. Both artisanal and innovative.

Helios is a solar car team that works united towards participating in the 'New Energy New Generation Solar Car Competition 2015' organized by Electrical and Mechanical Service Department of the HKSAR. We are so glad to join the solar car family as a group of engineering students. Chris Anderson, the author of the book "Makers" (自造者時代), said that 'The great opportunity in the new maker movement is

the ability to be both small and global. Both high-tech and low cost. Starting small but getting big.'

We believe that building our solar car with the work from pairs of bare hands is a realization of Chris's viewpoint - to start small but eventually brining an innovative revolution to the automotive industry. Reversing imagination and protecting our earth.

上個星期六，Helios再次同大家見面啦！我地應HKU Online Learning既邀請參加左係天水圍伯裘書院舉行既「數理科技學習匯2016」。其間有多過兩百個小學生都見到Helios，有啲小朋友重可以解答到太陽能車既運作原理添！

We were invited by the HKU Online Learning to attend the 'Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM) Learning Fair 2016' which was held at Pak Kau College in Tin Shui Wai alongside the Helios on last Saturday. Throughout the fair, more than 200 primary students were able to witness the Helios, where some of them were able to explain the working principle of a solar car!

得獎感言 Award Acceptance Speech

努力半年，Helios太陽能車隊終於獲頒「新能源、新世代」太陽能車比賽的「總冠軍獎」和「創新設計獎」！

是次成功，實在有賴各隊員通力合作，上下一心。從設計、到製造、到試車…過關斬將，殊不容易。在過程中，經驗尚淺的我們面對過不少困難。就此，我們唯有將勤補拙，努力地從師長身上學習機械、電子和程式編寫的知識。這段經歷，我們至今仍記憶猶新。這部太陽能車，載着不少我們的心血。

在此，我們誠心誠意地感謝各位教授、導師和技術員，尤其是：王德燊工程師、陳國樑博士、陳潔華博士、陳志强博士和劉繼恩先生的悉心教導和提點。同時亦感謝主辦單位和各個參賽隊伍：是次比賽，讓我們獲益良多。能夠與各隊切磋坻礪，是我們的榮幸。

Thank you for your support! We have made it! We are awarded the "Overall award" and the "Innovative design award” in the "New Energy New Generation" Solar Car Competition.

This is only made possible with the cooperation and active participation from all members. From design and manufacture to testing, it is not easy to overcome the countless obstacles in the process, especially when many of us had to build up our automotive knowledge from scratch. Working round the clock to strive for engineering excellence from mechanical, electrical to programming are still fresh in our memories. Most importantly, we learnt a lot from this process, and we are proud of ourselves that we have produced such a lovely car!

Here we would like to thank our professors, advisers and technicians, especially: Ir. Alexander Wong, Dr. Chan Kwok Leung, Dr. Chan Kit Wah, Dr. Chan Chi Keung and Mr. Lau Kai Yun for their teachings and advice. We would also like to thank the organizers for providing us a great platform to compete with and learn from each other. We appreciate the effort made by all the teams.
