A closer look at the Red Bandit TP52 rig.
This mast was built with complete titanium hardware, including Mc1 titanium internal tang and locks.
For a performance programme like Red Bandit, the details matter. Weight, strength, reliability and clean integration all play a role in the final result.
One of the key details on this project was the diagonal shroud tangs. During the design process, the Mc1 team redesigned them as a single titanium component rather than a three-part assembly, reducing weight from 510 grams to 397 grams while also simplifying fabrication.
The halyard locks were also redesigned for reliable release under load, especially when loads are applied off-axis during sail handling. For a foredeck team in offshore racing, that kind of reliability matters.
These are the details that may not always be visible from the dock, but they are part of what gives a serious racing rig its confidence.
