VikingAnchors Viking Anchors has lifted the benchmark for anchor design by being at the forefront of using high tensile (HT) carbon steel throughout the anchor.

We decided to design and make the best anchor possible using HT steel. So far, we have succeeded.

Market conditions are slow right now, and I know many in the marine world are feeling the pinch. When you start to see 50% off promotions on marine products, it's the final stamp that the market has become tough.
When big promotions cycle through like this, it is a good time to reflect on how we choose to operate.
Our approach has always been simple: fair, transparent pricing every day. At Viking Anchors, we skip the cycle of artificial markups and heavy discounting, keeping our prices consistently honest.
Every anchor we make is engineered from genuine Swedish made Hardox 450 high-tensile steel, built to handle tough conditions, and shipped directly from our hands to your boat.
When you support independent manufacturing, you are investing directly in quality materials, proven design, and personal service. If you are preparing for your next cruise, take a look at our Viking and Odin lines and support small-scale marine craftsmanship. Safe sailing out there!

It is all about geometry and design.

Fluke geometry can make or break a set; our tests reveal which designs dig, hold and reset in different bottoms.

It’s been quiet here lately, but we wanted to give everyone an honest update on stock.

Right now, our most popular Viking anchor sizes are out of stock. Fabrication in Ukraine is pushing hard despite ongoing challenges, and we estimate we are about a month away from having these sizes ready to ship.

To make sure nobody is left hanging, we are not accepting backorders until production is complete. We will post an update here as soon as they are back on the shelves and ready to order.

Thanks for your patience and support while our factory works through the pipeline.

4 days at sea testing the final "Stingray" prototype in some of the most densely vegetated anchorages in the Dodecanese. The results? Not good enough.

At Viking Anchors, "okay" or "almost" doesn't cut it. If an anchor doesn't set cleanly and perform reliably in tough bottom conditions, it doesn't get our stamp of approval. So, it is back to the drawing board for us. We do not give up until we get it right. You can revisit where this journey started in our original Stingray development post.

On another note, we are always looking for smart ways to grow. With a modest marketing budget, we have teamed up with an AI agent named Soro to help us publish daily blog posts on our website and boost our traffic.

Soro has been churning out some genuinely clever reads on all things anchoring, seamanship, and marine tech. Head over to our Soro Blogs page, check out the latest reads, and let us know what you think of Soro's work. Your feedback means a lot to us!

An anchor that looks adequate on a calm pontoon can feel very different at 2am when the tide turns and the wind begins to build.

An anchor sizing calculator for sailboats is a useful starting point, but it shouldn't be treated as a guarantee. The right choice depends on the real loads your boat creates, the ground tackle transferring those loads, and where you genuinely intend to anchor.

For a weekend cruiser in settled conditions, a calculator result is a sensible baseline. But for a liveaboard couple, a short-handed crew, or anyone heading offshore, there is a strong case for sizing with extra margin. That margin buys easier nights, less strain on the crew, and far more options when the best shelter isn't an empty marina berth.

What to keep in mind when choosing your primary anchor:

Calculate for actual weight, not brochure specs.
Cruising boats gain weight quickly with batteries, solar panels, a tender, fuel, water, and gear. Catamarans need extra attention due to high windage. Length gives you scale, but displacement determines the actual load.

Design matters as much as weight.
Weight alone doesn't tell you how fast an anchor sets, how deep it buries, or if it will reset after a 180-degree wind shift. Modern high-holding-power designs made with high-tensile steel (like Hardox 450) deliver superior holding without relying on dead weight. Lighter handling on the foredeck means less strain on your windlass and crew.

Check the whole load path.
An anchor is only as good as the rode behind it. Proper scope, a dependable snubber or bridle to absorb shock loads, and well-maintained shackles and bow rollers are vital.

Use the calculator as a disciplined starting point, then apply your real-world cruising margin for the nights when the anchorage changes character.

Quick update for the Viking Community! ⚓

First off, thank you to everyone who has reached out regarding upcoming Viking production runs. Demand has been fantastic, and the next batch is currently in active production.

For our group members looking to add a dedicated secondary or stern anchor, or for those who have upgraded their bow setups, we have Odin series anchors in stock and ready to ship immediately.

Why the Odin makes an ideal secondary or primary setup:

Perfect Pushpit Mount: Without a roll-bar, the Odin is a natural fit for rail mounting on the pushpit for immediate stern deployment.

Easy Locker Stowage: If you prefer to stow it below deck, the sleek, roll-bar-free profile stores flat and clean in an anchor locker without snagging.

Bowsprit & Furler Compatibility: Ideal if you have added a Code Zero furler or bowsprit that creates clearance issues on the bow.

Same Engineering DNA: Built with the same high-tensile Hardox 450 steel and 33° fluke geometry you trust from your Viking.

If you are planning any off-season ground tackle upgrades or want advice on sizing an Odin for a pushpit setup, drop a comment below or send a message directly!
