Best beaches
I do not know if there is a Greek who has not heard the phrase "Like Halkidiki nowhere", but I can say that there is no one who has passed from Halkidiki and did not agree!
1. Possidi BeachLocated 70 km (43 miles) south of Poligiros, the main town of Halkidiki, Possidi is a beautiful village set in picturesque surroundings overlooking the old castle of Mende.You can visit the ruins of the ancient city of Mende, today’s Posidi, which was founded in the eighth century, BC by Eretrian settlers from present-day Evia.The city, located on the mountain slopes south of Kassandra is well-known for its Temple of Poseidon, which is among the oldest sanctuaries in Greece.
2.Kalogria Beach in Halkidiki, the Perfect spot for Relaxation and Families
Kalogria Cove in Sithonia sits amid lush pine forests, and consists of soft, golden sand and turquoise waters with green hills behind the beach. You can easily find rocky enclaves and secluded spots to explore.Enjoy a swim in the shallow waters and watch the lovely sunset with its palette of colors on the horizon. Children, as well as the adventurous, will definitely want to hike up the hills behind the beach for a great view of the nearby peninsula.

Let’s talk about Chalkidiki (part 2)
Leaving Kassandra behind, you are heading towards the Sithonia peninsula or the “second leg” of Halkidiki in the Greek language. Sithonia is not a tourist-popular destination, which makes it an even more beautiful and unspoiled place. If you are looking for a place to spend your vacation in peace without the hustle and bustle of a crowded place, this is your best option. Sithonia consists of family-friendly beaches with turquoise waters, and plenty of small caves to explore and enjoy. Also, the peninsula of Sithonia is the ideal place for camping lovers. There are many organized camping spots offering great facilities, which can feel quite similar to an all-inclusive vacation. 🇬🇷 ☀️ 🇬🇷

Let’s talk about Chalkidiki
It an immensely popular seaside destination in northern Greece. Consisting of four distinct regions (Central Halkidiki, Kassandra, Sithonia, and Athos), three of which extend southeast as “legs” into the Aegean Sea, this region boasts perhaps the greatest number of excellent beaches in the whole of Greece.
Central Halkidiki is usually regarded as ‘transit territory’ for visitors heading to the attractions of the Peninsulas’ beaches or the monastic quiet of Mount Athos. However, the Center is a destination in its own right and boasts many unsung, pretty villages, mountain hideaways, and rustic rural fare in country tavernas, as well as some excellent hiking, cycling, and scenic driving options. It is also the site of controversial gold mining operations that have driven many locals to distraction. It is home to Halkidiki’s administrative capital, Polygyros, and a few beach enclaves worth considering. A worthwhile archaeological site and an intriguing ancient cave bring up the rear of things to see in this rather underrated part of the region. Central Halkidiki Sightseeing & Activities -Petralona Cave: First discovered in 1959 by local man Filippos Hatzaridis. It has been dated to about 700,000 years ago. The fossils of many animals have also been found in the cave. Located approximately 50km from Thessaloniki and inland from Nea Kallikrateia, it makes for a worthwhile detour. The entry ticket also gives access to the nearby Anthropological Museum.
-Ancient Olynthos: Olynthos was an Ancient Greek city state founded in the 7th century BC and carries a fairly significant history. Archaeology buffs may care to visit the extensive site near the village; it extends over two hills, and the remains demonstrate a fine early example of urban planning. Artifacts found on the site are displayed in the Thessaloniki and Polygyros Archaeological Museums. -Weaving Museum of Arnaia: Traditional weavers still spin their yarn and create carpets and wall hangings following time-honored patterns and methods on very old looms.

Day trip from Thessaloniki (part 2)

Edessa 💦
Some of the most incredible waterfalls and views can be discovered in Edessa, as well as an archaeological site of great importance to the ancient kingdom of Macedonia. The waterfalls are magnificent, and you are able to walk down underneath them to really experience their power. Vergina 👑 Vergina is a small village, however what is held there is anything but small. Home to the ancient city of Aigai, the site is an archaeological goldmine. You can visit the remains of the temple, theatre and most impressively, the cluster of Macedonian tombs unearthed there; one even believed to be the final burial of Philip II of Macedonia. The museum is cleverly built over the top of the underground tombs, so you can witness them exactly how they were found. Worth a visit simply for the museum, as it is beautiful, you will also find lovely shops and restaurants around in the village too.
Mount Olympus ⛰
Standing tall approximately 80 kilometers from Thessaloniki, the mighty Mount Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece. Its highest point, Mitikas, reaches 2,917 meters high. Whether you plan to climb it or simply escape the busy city for a few hours with a hike, you should head to Litohoro, a small town where you can find tavernas and restaurants for a break. Don’t forget to stop by the little village of Dion, home to an archaeological site and holy sanctuary where games were once held to honor Zeus.

Day trips from Thessaloniki (part 1) Chalkidiki 🏖 One of the most well-known tourist hotspots around Thessaloniki is the 3-pronged area of Halkidiki. Favoured by locals during the summer! Each prong represents a slightly different atmosphere, and the third is off-limits as it is sacred monastic land. There are plenty on the first two prongs however; beautiful white sandy beaches, crisp-clear oceans, beachfront bars and restaurants, small Greek villages, caves to explore and plenty more activities.
Pozar baths 🚿🛁
A visit to the natural thermal baths in Pozar is a definite for anyone visiting the city. The area of Pozar holds natural baths that are nestled in the wooded surrounds with a plunge pool for those visiting in the summer that need a cool off. The surrounding village has some lovely tavernas and markets selling local goods that you can explore after your dip in the healing natural mineral waters

Meteora🗻
Meteora is a beautiful mountainous region located around a couple of hours drive from Thessaloniki. The regions stunning landscape and village also features some of the most impressive and beautiful monasteries in the country, nestled on the hilltops. Inside the monasteries, which are still home to many monks and nuns are worth a visit as they are truly spectacular inside, though bear in mind many are donation entry and you will need to be appropriately dressed.

Thessaloniki (born 352 or 345, died 295 BC) was a Macedonian princess, daughter of King Philip II and the Thessalian wife of Nikisipoleos from Feres. She was the half-sister of Alexander the Great and the wife of Cassander.
