Dear all: For people interested in whales and other marine life, i am attaching a video we made on my recent sailing trip in Baja, Mexico (not on Crazy Horse, unfortunately) with CH skipper Rodrigo Olson and his partner, Belinda Braithwaite. As I mentioned in my previous post, Rodrigo and Belinda are dedicated environmentalists and do a lot of work to highlight the dangers facing marine life in general, and whales and other cetaceans in particular, through their own charitable foundation and Custom Discovery (customdiscovery.com).

Dear Crazy Horse fans: I am delighted to announce the return of Rodrigo Olson as full-time captain of Crazy Horse! Rodrigo has been the nominal skipper of Crazy Horse since 2016 but has been too busy with other personal and professional projects to be involved on a day-to-day to basis with the boat. It is no exagerration to say that Rodrigo is one of the best and most experienced sailors in the world, and i feel very privileged and fortunate to have him as skipper, in addition to counting him as a close personal friend! Despite his Nordic surname, Rodrigo is Mexican and embodies all of the warmth and friendliness of the wonderful Mexican people. In addition to his outstanding experience as a sailor, he has a degree in Oceanography and was Captain of the famous research vessel ‘R/V Odyssey’ which spent five years studying marine mammals around the globe. Rodrigo has covered almost 300,000 nautical miles on sailing boats, the equivalent of circling the globe more than 12 times! Since 2012 he has dedicated much of his time into researching the plastic pollution problem in our oceans and is a committed environmentalist, together with his long-time partner, Belinda Braithwaite. More information about Rodrigo and Belinda's projects and their personal history, together with some wonderful videos and photos of marine life and sailing, can be found on their website: customdiscovery.com. Please join me in welcoming Rodrigo back to Crazy Horse! The boat and everyone who sails on her will be in good hands with Rodrigo at the helm!

Despite being surrounded by incredible marine life, most children in the Maldives have never seen below the surface of the ocean.

As part of the Maldivian Education Ministry’s Farukoe programme, BLUE and the Maldives Underwater Initiative have taken 95 students snorkeling so far this year in the hope that, by experiencing their beautiful marine environment firsthand, they will be inspired to protect it.
