You probably keep jumper cables in your vehicle so you can ask for a jump if your battery dies or offer a jump to a fellow driver. Jumping batteries on cars built after the year 2000 might not be a smart idea. That's because newer vehicles contain dozen computers and even more digital devices. Jump-starting with cables connected to a running vehicle can create a voltage surge large enough to fry expensive computers in either vehicle such as your vehicle ECU (Engine Control Unit). An ECU cost between USD 5,000 - USD 50,000.
Rather than jump start, have your car towed to the nearest service center to have your battery replaced or recharged.
