We had an interesting job to go to last week, got a call from one of our colleagues asking if we could help them on a repair at their workshops. Very envious of their workshop.
A customer had had a serious accident and damaged the roof and front ramp surround.
We stripped the front ramp and it's surround to find the ramp hinges we're rotten so they got changed at the same time , the roof was then removed and the frame cleaned up and then the rebuild could begin.

Here we have an old photo of a test we did to try and show the difference in the strength of different types of flooring used on horse trailers.
We think it's worth a re-run as there has been a number of trailers coming up for sale as cheap safe transport for your horses with marine ply floors and its the best way to realise how different these things react to weight.
It's also worth reiterating that marine ply is not moisture proof unlike phenolic ply which uses a waterproof glue but still needs to be sealed along any cut edges.

So this week something came a little different. A 2 horse Ifor Williams horse box not a trailer but which at sometime someone had replaced the floor with 3mm exterior ply, yes 3mm and a sheet of 2mm chequer plate. Not sure how it never collapsed but had definitely stretched the aluminium between the chassis rail. We replaced it with the original 18mm phenolic ply to ensure the horses don't end up like Fred Flintstone.

Morning everybody here's a photo of what greeted us on a service this week on a newly purchased customers trailer that was in for a check over. The trailer looked to be in really good condition clean and tidy with all the lights working, however on removing the wheel hubs the brake pads fell off and the cables were all seized. There was no real way without removing the hubs the new owners would have been able to tell the condition of the brakes.
There are a couple of things if you are buying a trailer that you can try to give you an indication to the brakes condition
1 pull the handbrake on, if the handle goes to approximately the 12 o'clock position with ease and no noise this is a good sign.
2 rock the trailer backwards and forwards it should move easily if it's heavy then something is wrong.
3 if the seller says the brakes occasionally stick first thing but are always ok afterwards there is an issue.
You are required by law to have you trailer in roadworthy condition and you can get points on your licence and considerable fines. If you are the driver of the car then you are the one talking to the police.

We had another week of assorted trailers and horseboxes this week, with a very colourful horsebox needing a little cosmetic work in the horse area to a cattle trailer needing a full brake overhaul. A very busy week this week with many enquiries and bookings so looking like a busy summer ahead.
We have managed to complete an Equi trek Space trekka rebuil for a customer who will be collecting it shortly, but we thought you might like to see a few photos.

SORRY FOR THE MOAN
So we had a really busy week here at URO Horse trailers, many trailers in and out, lots of brakes fitted tyres, some panels as well as rebuilds and several invoices sent out with customers collecting trailers and promising to pay as soon as they get home or similar promises. So Sunday morning checking the bank account and nearly £3000 still outstanding. This is by no means down to one or two people but its the small amounts, the £100 or £200 invoices that haven't been paid that add up and strangle our cash flow. This means that those who have their trailers back or ready to collect are affecting our ability to do next weeks work if our suppliers don't allow us credit.
So please if you owe a small amount to a small business it isn't always a small problem if you haven't paid but it's a cumulative problem for many small businesses. If your having Sunday lunch out with your family or at a show paying your entry fees if you do owe money to a small business like ours is it your money your spending or mine.

Just Arrived
We have an Ifor Williams 403 Single horse trailer
Black 2016 in very good condition, however soft spot has been found on the rear ramp and a replacement panel has been ordered
Not had a lot of use
Will have 4 new tyres and new brake shoes fitted and fully serviced will come with a 3 month warranty
