Well, it's the end of an era. Having moved to Northern Ireland at the end of January, I'm taking the decision to close my business with immediate effect. 19 years of being a driving instructor has been hard work, but mostly fun. It's been a privilege to help all those drivers gain their full driving licence. There are hundreds of people I've met and helped over these years. I've valued the support I've had from family, friends and colleagues so much. Thank you to you all, and to past pupils. Carry on driving safely 🙏. To my knowledge, none of my pupils have been involved in a serious accident and long may this continue, well done 👏.

Retirement will be strange, but it's been my intention to do that, here in Northern Ireland. My husband, as many of you know, has motor neuron disease and we plan to spend as much time as possible, doing things together ❤️.

The York and North Yorkshire Road Safety Partnership have provided the following statistics. If a car hits a pedestrian:

At 40mph there is a 90% chance of death to the pedestrian

At 35mph there is a 50% chance of death to the pedestrian

At 30mph there is a 20% chance of death to the pedestrian

At 20mph there is a 2.5% chance of death to the pedestrian

I am relocating to Northern Ireland on 30/01/2026 and will be closing my driving school business in York.

Since qualifying as an instructor in 2006, I have probably taught between 500 - 600 people how to drive. Thank you to all those pupils who've made it such a pleasure.

Don’t drive too close to horses!

If you see a horse rider or a vehicle being drawn by a horse, slow down 🐎.

Be patient and don’t sound your horn or rev your engine as this could startle the horse and it may bolt.

Drive no more than 10 mph and leave at least 2 metres (6 feet) of space around it.

This also applies when you are driving through national parks which may have semi-wild horses.
