"Have a look at these brilliant shots, folk." 📸✨
Our loyal customer Amy was out with us tonight and captured some absolute crackers of the Minster and the Shambles on a fine summer's evening.
You’d think the bright, warm nights would scare the ghosts away, but Amy’s lens proves that the shadows in the snickelways run just as deep in June as they do in dark October. The old timber of the Shambles and the towering stone of the Minster look proper atmospheric in the twilight.
A massive thank you to Amy for sharing these—it’s our guests who keep the timeline alive night after night.
If you fancy seeing how the ancient city changes when the twilight finally rolls over the Ouse, come join us.

"The sun’s out this week, folk—and it’s looking to be a warm one on the cobbles." ☀️🏃‍♂️
While we always look forward to the cooler twilight hours, the city is holding onto the heat. We’ll find the shade wherever possible as we navigate the snickelways, but we strongly urge you to bring a bottle of water along with you tonight and the rest of the week.
Look after yourselves, stay hydrated, and we’ll see you right by the river when the shadows finally start to stretch.

"The gates are barred for the weekend, folks." ❌🐎

The thundering hooves are back, and the race crowds have taken over the city. Because of the traffic and the chaos, The Original Ghost Walk will be closed this Friday and Saturday.

We’ll be heading back out into the snickelways on Sunday night at 8:00 PM sharp. Enjoy the races if you're backing a winner, and we'll see you on the other side.

The city changes. The generations shift. But the history we share remains set in stone. 🕯️

Take a look at the iconic Roman Column outside York Minster.
The first image, from the mid 90s, was sent in by one of our annual guests; Charlie and Sue Pipal, Blueprint Tours - Riverside Illinois USA

The second and third images bring us right into the modern day, standing on the exact same stone plinth, ready to guide you into the night.
We don't just tell the history of York; our guests have made us a part of it.

📸 Do you have old photos from your time on the walk? Whether it's from the 70s, 80s, 90s, or recent years, we want to see them. Send your pictures and stories to us via DM or tag us! Help us map out the past, present, and future of the oldest ghost walk in the world.

Step into the timeline with us tonight.

"Even the spirits need a rest when the thundering hooves arrive." 🐎

The city of York is currently alive with the energy of the Dante Festival, and for a brief moment, the living have outnumbered the dead.

To make way for the racing crowds, The Original Ghost Walk will be closed on:
❌ Wednesday 13th
❌ Thursday 14th
❌ Friday 15th

We shall return to the shadows on Saturday, May 16th, as the sun sets over the Ouse.

While the racecourse holds the excitement of the day, remember what lies beneath the track. The Ebor Nook has its own tales of Roman burials and restless souls—perhaps they’ll be watching the finish line with you. 🕯️

See you Saturday at 8:00 PM at The King’s Arms.

Look up at the portcullis of Monk Bar—it’s the only one in York that still works. But it wasn't built for decoration; it was built for blood.

The 'murder holes' in the ceiling above the archway were designed so defenders could pour boiling water or hot sand onto attackers trapped below. They say that on certain quiet nights, when the wind whistles through the stone, you can still hear the panicked clawing at the gates from those who couldn't get in—or out.

Congratulations to York City on their promotion to League Two, we are looking forward to seeing the players get their well deserved parade today!

To top that off, on a rare day off, we were able to meet one of the greatest people you are ever likely to encounter, who told his story at the York Barbican last week, Kevin Sinfield.
