π Are We Sleepwalking Into Another Driver Shortage?
Something we are starting to notice more and more...
Its getting harder and harder to recruit Class 2 drivers?
Not necessarily good ones.
Any at all.
For years, most drivers followed the same path:
π Van driver
π Class 2
π Class 1
They learnt the job, gained experience and worked their way up.
Since the Government removed the Class 2 step back in 2021, drivers can go straight from a car license to a Class 1.
At the time it was seen as the solution to the driver shortage.
But is it simply starting to cause a new problem?
Are we now seeing fewer people entering Class 2 roles because they're heading straight for Class 1 jobs?
From where I'm sitting, finding Class 2 drivers today feels far harder than it did 5 or 10 years ago.
I'd be interested to hear what other operators, drivers, transport managers and warehouse managers think.
Are you seeing the same thing?
π Let me know in the comments.
