New "shoes"! 😃
As a driving instructor, there's always something satisfying about keeping your car in top condition. After all, it's not just a vehicle—it's a classroom on wheels. That's why I'm so excited about getting my car some new "shoes" – a fresh set of tyres!
Tyres are one of the most important safety features on any vehicle. They provide grip, help with braking, improve handling, and keep you safe in all weather conditions. Essentially, you’re “running” on four shoe soles — that’s how much tyre is in contact with the road.
For a driving instructor, reliable tyres are even more important, as they help ensure every lesson is as safe and comfortable as possible for both instructor and learner.
In the UK, there are legal requirements that every driver must follow when it comes to tyres. The law states that:
The minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre and around the entire circumference.
Tyres must be free from cuts, bulges, or other damage that could make them unsafe.
They must be correctly inflated according to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations.
Driving with illegal or unsafe tyres can result in a fine of up to £2,500 per tyre and 3 penalty points per tyre, making regular tyre checks essential.
