Ever forced a gear change and hoped for the best? 🙏
This Mini Cooper came in with a gear selection problem. We found wear in the selector linkage and got that repaired, but once the linkage was sorted, it became clear the damage had already gone further.
That is why we look beyond the first obvious fault. If a car has been driven with poor gear selection for a while, the gearbox can suffer internally, especially around the selector mechanism.
💡On these A Series Minis, the engine and gearbox layout means this is not a small job once the problem moves inside the gearbox. The right approach is to separate the engine and transmission and fit a properly reconditioned exchange gearbox.
👀If the gear change feels wrong, it is worth dealing with early. Small faults can become expensive when they are forced for too long.
