🚛 THE UK HGV SECTOR NEEDS NEW DRIVERS – AND WE’RE HELPING MORE PEOPLE INTO THE INDUSTRY
The RHA has reported that over 117,000 HGV drivers have left the industry in the past 12 months, including a surprising number of younger drivers. High insurance costs, expensive training, the withdrawal of funded bootcamps and the pressures on already tight margins are all contributing to the challenge.
RHA Managing Director Richard Smith explained that increasing wages alone isn’t enough to fix the problem. Barriers like limited entry routes, training costs and difficulties securing permanent roles are stopping new drivers from entering the sector, even at a time when demand is high.
At Veterans into Logistics, we see the opportunity behind these challenges.
Every week, we help people gain their licences, build confidence and take their first step into a long-term HGV career. With structured training, mentoring and the support of our employer partners, we’re helping more people enter an industry that urgently needs new talent.
