We get asked every year when our emergency medical technician apprentice roles will open. While we don’t have a date yet, it’s a good idea to start getting ready now.

One key requirement for the role is a C1 driving licence, which allows you to drive ambulances. If you’re thinking about applying, you should start by getting your C1 provisional in place early.

Ready to level up and get your Category C, C1 or C+E licence? 🚛💨

​The HGV 3b On-Road Test can feel like a lot, but we’re here to break it down so you can head to the test centre with total confidence.

Here is everything you need to know:

​🕒 The Clock is Ticking

​The test lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. It’s your time to show the examiner you've got the skills to handle the big rigs safely.

​📋 The Checklist

​Don't get turned away before you even start! Make sure you bring:

✅️​Your Driving Licence.

✅️​Your 3a Off-Road Manoeuvre Certificate (you must pass this first!).

✅️​Hi-Vis clothing (Safety first!).

​🛑 What is SCALP?

​During the drive, the examiner will ask you to pull over at least 5 times.

Just remember SCALP:

​🛠️ Show Me, Tell Me

​You’ll be asked 5 "Show Me, Tell Me" questions to test your vehicle safety knowledge. Brush up on your checks!
