🚗🎉 FIRST TIME PASS FOR KATIE! 🎉🚗

A massive congratulations to Katie, who passed her driving test FIRST TIME! 🥳👏

And this one is a perfect example of what makes Fast Pass Driving School a little different.

Unlike the big, faceless nationwide training providers, we’re a small team of dedicated, passionate professionals who actually know each other, talk to each other and, when it benefits the learner, work together.

Because sometimes…

TEAMWORK REALLY DOES MAKE THE DREAM WORK. ❤️

Katie originally started learning in a manual car with one of our manual instructors and was progressing well from lesson to lesson.

There was just one stubborn obstacle:

😈 THE CLUTCH.

No matter how hard she tried, it simply wouldn’t click consistently. The repeated stalls and frustration started knocking her confidence, despite her instructor trying different ways to help her overcome it.

Rather than allowing that one difficulty to turn into full-blown driving anxiety, her instructor suggested something very important:

👉 Give automatic a try.

That’s where Andras, our automatic instructor who specialises in working with SEND and neurodiverse learners, stepped in.

Thanks to Fast Pass’s structured approach to training, the transition from one instructor to another was completely seamless.

And according to Andras, he actually had the easy job! 😄

All the important foundations of Katie’s roadcraft had already been built during her manual lessons. Her observations, planning, judgement and understanding were strong.

They had simply been buried underneath the fear of the clutch, stalling and getting it wrong.

Remove those obstacles…

…and Katie absolutely TOOK OFF. 🚀

Confidence returned.
Progress accelerated.
Driving became enjoyable again.

And most importantly, the positive learning environment meant the journey became fun for both learner and instructor.

Because when you’re learning, absolutely anything can become a memory hook.

A road sign.
A silly phrase.
A ridiculous story.

Or apparently…

🧙‍♂️🚗 DRIVING TEST MYTH BUSTER
Are driving examiners really Dementors with iPads? 😱😂”

The way some learners describe test day, you’d think the examiner was a Dementor from Harry Potter:

Black robe.
No emotion.
iPad in hand.
Waiting to feed on your confidence before you’ve even left the test centre. 😅

REALITY:
They’re human.

They drink tea. They get stuck in traffic. They probably have someone at home asking what they want for dinner.

And most importantly:

They’re not expecting perfection.

They’re simply assessing whether you can drive safely, independently and make sensible decisions without your instructor quietly saving the day from the passenger seat.

You can stall.
You can take a wrong turn.
You can hesitate.
You can make a driving fault.

None of those automatically means the test is over.

Examiners also don’t have a secret target for how many learners they must fail before lunch. There’s no leaderboard in the staff room. 😂

They know people get nervous. They see it every day.

So instead of thinking:

“The examiner is judging everything I do…”

Try thinking:

“I’m just taking someone for a safe 40-minute drive.”

Because sometimes the scariest part of the driving test isn’t the examiner.

It’s the imaginary version of them you created in your head the night before.

No Dementors. No dark magic. Just an examiner with an iPad.

And if test-day nerves are your biggest problem, that’s something we can work on too.

At Fast Pass Driving School, our instructors have a whole toolbox of tried, tested and proven strategies to help candidates manage nerves, stay focused and perform at their best when it matters.

Because our test-day preparation involves a little more than:

🍌 “Here, have a banana and try not to panic.” 😂

The banana can stay… but we prefer to add some proper preparation as well.

Stay calm. Trust your training. Show them what you can do. ✅

🚗💢 ROAD RAGE: DON’T JOIN IN. DRIVE SMART.

For learner drivers, remember one thing:

You are not there to win an argument — you are there to get home safely.

🔴 Don’t react.
No shouting, gestures, staring, flashing lights or trying to “teach them a lesson.” Even a small reaction can escalate the situation.

🔴 Create space.
If someone is tailgating, increase the gap between you and the vehicle in front. This gives you more time to slow down smoothly.

🔴 Let them go.
If it’s safe, allow an aggressive driver to overtake. It’s far better to have them disappearing down the road than sitting six inches from your bumper.

🔴 Don’t be pressured into speeding.
Drive at a safe and legal speed.
Their impatience is NOT your emergency.

🔴 Avoid confrontation.
Don’t pull over to argue, get out of the car or follow them.

🔴 If someone follows you, don’t drive home.
Head towards a busy, well-lit public place, petrol station or police station.

🔴 Keep doors locked and windows up if someone approaches aggressively.

🔴 If you genuinely feel threatened or there is immediate danger, call 999.

🔴 Never use your phone while driving.
Stop somewhere safe first, or ask a passenger to make the call.

🔴 Reset afterwards.
Adrenaline and anger can affect your concentration long after the other driver has gone. If necessary, stop somewhere safe for a few minutes before continuing.

And one message every learner should remember:

📢 A horn behind you does NOT change the Highway Code.

If you’re waiting for a safe gap at a junction or roundabout, don’t let somebody else’s impatience bully you into taking a gap you don’t believe is safe.

A good driver isn’t the person who “wins” a road-rage situation. It’s the person who refuses to become part of it.

Stay calm. Drive smart. Get home safely. ❤️

🎉🚗 FIRST TIME PASS FOR RYAN! 🚗🎉

A massive congratulations to Ryan, who passed his driving test FIRST TIME! 👏🥳

This one genuinely means a lot.

At Fast Pass Driving School, we’ve always believed that driver training shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all. Every learner, every family and every situation is different, so wherever we safely can, we adapt the training around what will benefit our customers most.

And perhaps that’s one of the nicest compliments we can receive — when families come back to us again. ❤️

Around a year and a half ago, I had the pleasure of teaching Ryan’s brother, John. So when their dad got back in touch and asked whether I would also take Ryan through his training, in Ryan’s own manual car, just as we had done with John, I felt genuinely honoured.

Teaching someone in their own car rather than a purpose-built tuition vehicle is a very different experience. There are no dual-control pedals sitting on my side waiting to rescue the situation if things get interesting! 😅

It requires a high level of discipline, concentration, communication and, above all, mutual trust between learner and instructor.

Ryan absolutely delivered.

His commitment throughout the training was outstanding. He listened, worked hard, took responsibility for his own progress and — very importantly — actually did the homework and extra practice with his dad between lessons. 👏

That combination of professional tuition, private practice and a learner willing to put the effort in is incredibly powerful.

And today all that work paid off:

✅ Driving test passed
✅ First attempt
✅ Mission accomplished

Ryan, you should be extremely proud of yourself. It has been a pleasure being part of your journey, and it was especially nice to be trusted by the family for the second time.

Now comes the part where there’s no instructor sitting next to you… 😬😂
