After quite a long break it’s back to doing some more on the 914. The screen surround outer panel is very corroded so rather than repair the sections we have removed it. Removing the inner panel work from a good origin screen left us with an easy refit, only needing the bottom corners to be replaced.

The es**rt Cosworth takes its next step. Corroded and damaged sills removed show more rust on the intermediate sill. Another project to enter the shop. This Es**rt Cosworth for Nate needs a bit of love and attention to get it back to looking its best. With a few poor repairs and a bit of race damage, with the filler removed we could see the repairs needed. Sourcing an original rear inner panel and genuine front panel to sort out modifications that had been carried out. New rear quarter and sills ordered from Expresses panels. Started off by tidying up the engine bay and fitting the front panel. Will be another nice project to go through the shop. Look up rs36_nate to see the rest of the non bodywork that’s being done. A nice little job to do. This Leyland Marathon had its rear panel replaced with a bolt in section. Removing this and replacing it with new panel work putting the joints and spot welds back in the right places was a very satisfying one to do. Using the Pullmax to put the profiles into what would be pressed originally panels, the job returned to its former glory.

Work continues on the Riley. The left hand panel work is now done ready for fitting along with the right. So onto the roof. Some changes needed to the wood frame to get the runners parallel for the sunroof and the rear roof panel can be made. We’re now awaiting the rear glass to prove the shape of the rear window as pretty much all of the rear wood work has had to be replaced because of inaccuracies. The original bonnet tops have had their damage repaired whilst the sides were too far gone. The louvers and hinge were kept and welded in to new side sections. Now all cleaned up and finished you would never know.

All done and ready for the off. With the laser cleaning completed and epoxy primer covering the newly cleaned metal the final parts of the build started. With a stainless steel water tube fitted a new scuttle top and sides were made and then welded on with the knowledge that all the rust was removed from the inner panels. Now welded the joints were lead loaded as were the door gaps to get the final details. This has been a lovely project to do. Taking a beautiful car that had been very poorly repaired and taking it back to its former glory.

On to@the scuttle. Patterns, templates and sweeps made it was time to remove the original one. This revealed all the inner panelling covered with some heavy surface rust. With this Marcus from MB Laserworks came and waved his magic wand. The surface came up really well with the rust removed ready for epoxy primer. The scuttle has then been shaped and flanged ready to be fitted back on next week. Getting towards the end of the job it’s turning out really well, a long way from how it came in.

This formula 750 Austin 7 came to us looking a little worse for ware. With the cowl panel replaced the rest of the damage was knocked out and metal finished retains all the original metal. Now the car is off to for a new coat of paint. With all@its original event stickers saved from@the bent bodywork it will@be able to add to@its history for many events to come. #7

With the rear end welded, de dented and cleaned up it was onto the scuttle. Patterns and templates were made, the metal cut out rolled and formed. The original scuttle was removed and revealed a lot of surface rust some of which is quite heavy. We’re now waiting for Marcus from Laserworks to come and literally wave a manic wand over this to get it back to clean metal ready for epoxy priming and the fitment of the new scuttle.
