2016 VW Caddy 2.0 TDI in for a major service and a timing belt and water pump replacement. Having only covered a mere 49k miles the front main seal was found to be leaking, an extremely common occurrence with Euro 6 VAG engines. Customer authorised sump removal and clean, strainer flush, oil pump belt replacement and replacement of all stretch bolts and seals as required. VA Group have opted to increase timing belt intervals to 10 years or 140k miles. While timing belts could under certain conditions last that long, unfortunately having seen and rectified many leaking front main seals (requiring timing belt removal) and leaking and/or bearing failure on water pumps which can lead to expensive engine internal damage, VAG-TEK’s recommended replacement intervals for timing belt kit and water pump on post 2009 cars remains at 5 years or 80k miles and for commercial vehicles and pre 2009 cars at 4 years and 60k miles. Preventative maintenance is far cheaper than the cost of repair when timing related components fail. 2011 VW Caddy 1.6 TDI in for diagnosis of an engine noise. Investigation found the timing belt tensioner to be at fault requiring complete replacement of timing belt, tensioner, idlers, water pump and all associated parts before the faulty part could worsen and cause further damage. Commercial vehicle recommendations for timing belt replacement are 4 years or 60k miles whichever is soonest. Genuine VW parts used. Unfortunate timing chain stretch resulted in the demise of this 2007 VW Golf R32 engine. A replacement good used engine was deemed the most cost effective option. A few late nights put in on this one to get the engine removed, stripped to a bare block and all ancillaries and wiring loom transferred to the donor engine before refitting with a few replacement parts and genuine gaskets, seals and lubricants as required before reinstallation to get this beast of a car back on the road. Not VW Audi Group but still German at least. Transmission service carried out on this BMW M135i with replacement filter sump pan, oil and even new sump bolts. Gearbox oil level set to correct level using diagnostics to monitor gear oil temperature. Customer reporting much smoother gear changes since replacement and also opted to have rear diff oil replaced while vehicle was in. Lovely 2012 VW Golf GTD 2.0 170 in for a minor service. Full inspection and diagnostics carried out with every minor or major service. Few issues highlighted for the customer that will need addressing shortly but caught early enough before further wear and damage could take place. Hi, bit of a different post to normal! Unfortunately, due to an incident whilst holidaying in the alps last week I ended up with a dislocated right shoulder. I am still waiting upon scans and physio to determine just how long my recovery will be. The medical advice so far is to have my arm immobilised and supported until swelling has reduced to work out if surgery is needed. Obviously for a self employed mechanic this is less than ideal. Fortunately I have a great people around me and I have the aid of some trusted mechanics and friends giving up their spare time to keep VAG-TEK operational. This will somewhat alter working hours until the people who can help me have already done a days work but starting around 2.30pm and going into the evening I am able to get work done. This will not alter the professional service VAG-TEKs customers have become used to as I will be there at all times and doing jobs where I can. Due to the working hours I am doing I’ll need vehicles overnight for most jobs. Your continued support and understanding throughout my recovery is most appreciated.
