Our road safety team is offering help and support to Hampshire's older drivers, and their families and friends, to help them carry on driving safely for longer.

Mature drivers generally have fewer accidents than young drivers However, as people grow older, gradual changes can diminish their ability to deal safely with some situations. A slight increase in awareness, or improvement in skills, is all it takes to make you safer and keep you behind the wheel for longer.

This afternoon we were mobilised to a fire at Wicor recreation ground. Our progress down Cranleigh Road was difficult due to a number of cars parked on corners and half on the grass verges and half on the road. When we arrived at the car park we found the gate to the pitches obstructed by cars blocking our access. This resulted in firefighters having to carry buckets of water past the pitches to the shore where the fire was.

Fortunately this was just a small fire involving undergrowth, but next time we could be attending something more serious and a delay like this could put people at unnessessery risk.

When parking your vehicle please take a moment to consider whether or not an emergency services vehicle could get through. If the answer is no, please find somewhere else to park.
