s been fortunate enough to secure the quality of skills required to fit in with the JSW Group having both a bodywork arm and a fabrication arm. Manufacturing anything from a battery box to complete chassis' on the fabrication side gives a range of services for the Group to manufacture a complete vehicle, restore a vehicle or accommodate minor repairs to sills, fuel tanks or fit tonneau covers to keep out the rain! South Shore has been equipped with both the latest labour saving equipment coupled with the machinery to carry out the traditional skills of English wheeling etc. With a combined skills age of in excess of 100 years, experience and high levels of both expertise and competence are passed down to the newer members of our team. South Shore is investing in skills for the future with a number of younger members of staff attending college whilst working in a professional environment. For those ‘secretive’ projects that are undertaken, two private workshop areas have been equipped to ensure that total secrecy can be given to a project, prior to delivering to our customer, giving the customer the re-assurance that the project can only be seen at his/her discretion. We have recently installed a Composite service for bodywork. Starting with two complete bodies cloned from an original, these two bodies will be top notch.

A huge amount of the corrosion repair work has now been completed on the VW, so Gary has moved on to the roof. The owner had sourced an original fabric sunroof frame and asked that this be let into the roof panel. Ensuring that the hole cut is the correct size and in the right position is incredibly important so Gary has measured extensively before making the first incision. Roof now cut, the frame fits as expected and now will be trimmed and 'joggled' before being welded into position.

We are currently restoring a rare Alfa Romeo AR51 'Matta', an Italian government initiated rugged 4x4 that Alfa and FIAT provided competing solutions for when the officials of the day decided that they needed a 'Land Rover'. FIAT won the contest seemingly due to cost, but the Alfa remains a significant machine with only 2000 or so being built.

Work continues on the VW. The bottom 6 - 8 inches of metal all around the shell is, in places, quite corroded so new panels are having to be let in very carefully in order to maintain exact dimensions and panel gaps. The owner is also very keen that everything (including the spot welds) are as original, so modifications are made to aftermarket panels to ensure they are correct.

Newly arrived, this VW Beetle is at the beginning of a full restoration. Once rolled into our coachworks workshop the body is separated from the chassis and Gary adds extra brace bars in order to maintain rigidity whilst lower panels are cut away. Replacement panels arrived with the car so assessment and offering up of new metal has already begun.

We offer a full range of body and chassis repair services for pre-war to modern classics. From localised repair to full restorations we have the unrivaled skills and experience that will keep your cherished classic on the road.

Our highly skilled coachworks team don't just work on full restorations: this lovely late 1930's MG SA Tickford needed repair to it's offside door. Examination revealed poor previous repairs so a new skin and work to the wooden lower structure were required. The door is now almost ready for paint.

If your classic, of any age needs smaller repairs, particularly if panels are unavailable, do get in touch to discuss how we can help.

Jim was joined this morning by Ashleigh and Steve from St Wilfrid's Hospice Chichester ( www.stwh.co.uk ) to receive a cheque for £7500 that the JSW Group raised during our annual Classics & Coffee event, separate donations and a corporate event that we hosted for Allica Bank . We would like to thank the many people who visited us and contributed to this fantastic total, the JSW team who give their time to make events happen and the owner of the stunning E-Type who gave permission for it's use today.

Returning from an eventful LeMans Classic, the cooper Jaguar was looking a little worse for wear. A brush with a tyre wall had damaged the rear bodywork requiring the attention of our coachworks team. Making the required repairs to near 70 year old aluminium bodywork and then getting it repainted ahead of it’s preparation for racing at the Goodwood Revival meeting in 6 weeks meant a tighter turn around than normal but the team have managed to get it off to the paint shop today.

Just to prove that our skills can be put to use on any era of car, a customer of our sister business Classics by JSWL, suffered suspension failure whilst competing in a Classic Touring Car Racing Club meeting which resulted in heavy damage to the roof of the Honda Integra Type R. Delivered to us with a 'new' roof Gary has spent the last week or so cutting off the old and disassembling the replacement before grafting it on. This was made all the more challenging because of the welded in rollcage and the triple skin construction of the roofs of modern cars, but the work is now complete and ready for paint.
