🤔 Would you trust a Ferrari without having it properly inspected first?

This Ferrari 612 came into us for a full vehicle health inspection and a comprehensive health report before being returned to the client.

Alex went through the car meticulously, checking everything he possibly could and documenting even the smallest issues he found.

There were a couple of things that needed attention, but that’s exactly why these inspections are so important. The aim isn’t just to find major faults. It’s about giving the client a complete picture of the vehicle and making sure nothing gets overlooked.

From mechanical components and fluids to general condition and anything that could potentially need attention in the future, Alex went through it all.

The result is a detailed vehicle health report that gives the client confidence in exactly what condition their Ferrari is in before it goes back to them.

With a car like this, attention to detail is everything. 🔍🏎️

🤔 Did you know a failed turbo can cause damage long after the turbo itself has been replaced?

This customer came into us after suffering a turbo failure, and Alex is showing exactly why you cannot simply replace the turbo and send the car back out on the road.

The intercooler was full of oil, and there was also a significant amount of oil residue within the DPF.

If these components aren’t properly cleaned and checked after a turbo failure, you can end up with further problems, including the potential for diesel runaway and serious engine damage.

Thankfully, this customer came to us at the right time.

We were able to thoroughly clean the oil residue from the DPF and then put it through our specialist DPF cleaning machine to make sure it was properly cleaned and functioning as it should.

That potentially saved the customer from having to replace the DPF on top of the turbo, which could have turned an already expensive repair into a much bigger bill.

In this video, Alex talks through the vital components that need to be checked after a turbo failure and why taking the time to do the job properly really matters.

It’s a small educational insight into what happens behind the scenes when a turbo lets go, and just how important it is to check everything that could have been affected.

Thankfully, this customer was very lucky. 🔧

🤔 How much power do you think this BMW 240i is going to make?

We caught Alex carrying out a full service on this BMW M240i, but this is definitely not your average service!

This 240i has already been through a serious list of upgrades with us, including a big turbo, a huge front mount intercooler, an upgraded high pressure fuel pump and a whole host of other supporting modifications.

The car is now heading off to a BMW specialist to be mapped and set up for some serious power, so before that happens, the customer asked us to carry out a full service using high performance racing fluids.

We have also put together a list of additional components and checks we recommend carrying out before the car gets mapped, making sure everything is ready to handle the extra power safely and reliably.

It’s always great seeing a car evolve from a standard road car into something properly built for performance, and this 240i is certainly heading in that direction! 🔥

🤔 Would you keep driving your car if it started making this noise?

This Volvo came into us after the customer noticed a rather unusual noise, and honestly, we could hear it before the car had even properly entered the workshop! 😳

The grinding noise was incredibly loud, but there were several possible causes, so Alex got straight to work pinpointing exactly where the noise and vibration were coming from.

After carrying out the diagnostics, we identified the dual mass flywheel as the likely culprit. It appears to have suffered a failure and become unbalanced, with evidence suggesting it is making contact with surrounding metal components.

And when you watch the video closely, you can actually see metal debris coming from the flywheel area as the engine is switched on and off.

At this point, the gearbox needs to come out so we can inspect everything properly and make sure the failed flywheel has not caused any further damage to the gearbox or engine.

A new flywheel has been ordered, so we will be getting stuck into it and finding out exactly what is going on behind the scenes.

We’re fortunate to have a constant stream of performance and prestige vehicles coming through the doors here at Alcomoto and it’s something we’re incredibly proud of.

This Maserati came in for a full service, including complete filter replacements, along with new discs and pads.

And when it comes to vehicles like this, we believe the details matter.

🚨 Thinking about buying an Audi R8 V10? Check the air conditioning. Seriously.

This Audi R8 V10 Spyder came into us after suffering a catastrophic failure of the A/C compressor.

And this isn’t just a case of the air conditioning stopping working.

On these R8s, the A/C compressor is driven directly from the engine. When the compressor fails or seizes, the resulting failure can cause serious damage to the compressor drive components.

On this particular R8, the compressor had already failed and the drive components had broken, with parts moving around and causing damage to the surrounding engine casings.

Thankfully, the customer has been incredibly lucky.

There was no major damage to the engine itself, but had the failure caused further damage to the engine casing or block, this could have turned an A/C repair into a potentially catastrophic engine repair.

A/C compressor failure is a recognised issue on the first-generation R8, and we’ve now seen several examples ourselves. Compressor seizure can be associated with loss of lubrication, and once the compressor fails, the consequences can be far more serious than simply losing your cold air.

This is also why we believe it’s so important to properly diagnose and address A/C problems rather than simply ignoring them.

The compressor on this R8 has now been replaced, removing the risk of the failed drive components causing further damage.

💡 So, if you’re looking at buying an R8 V10, here’s one thing we’d definitely recommend checking:

Does the air conditioning work correctly?

If it doesn’t, don’t just assume it’s a simple regas. Have the system properly inspected and make sure the compressor and its drive system are healthy.

A small A/C problem could potentially become a very expensive one if left unchecked.

This is exactly why we love working on cars like these. The more of these issues we see, the more we can share with owners and future owners to help them catch problems before they become catastrophic.

❄️ No air conditioning… but where’s the leak?

This BMW M6 came into the workshop with one complaint—no cold air from the air conditioning system.

The initial diagnostics showed the system reading zero refrigerant pressure, which immediately pointed us towards two likely possibilities:

🔧 A faulty pressure sensor.
💨 Or a refrigerant leak somewhere in the system.

Rather than replacing parts and hoping for the best, Alex followed a step-by-step diagnostic process to pinpoint the fault.

After checking the system, carrying out a pressure test and confirming it wasn’t holding pressure, it became clear there was a leak.

Next came the electronic refrigerant leak detector—often referred to as a “sniffer.” With the engine running, the cooling fan was moving so much air that it made locating the leak almost impossible. Once the engine was switched off, the leak detector quickly led us straight to the culprit…

👉 A leaking front air conditioning condenser.

With the fault confirmed, we safely recovered the remaining refrigerant, ordered a replacement condenser and will soon have this BMW back to blowing ice-cold air once again.

It’s another great example of why accurate diagnostics always beat guessing. Finding the fault first saves time, money and unnecessary parts replacement.

🔥 Should every Mustang sound as good as it looks? We think so.

This Ford Mustang EcoBoost came into the workshop for a full cat-back exhaust upgrade to give it a deeper, more refined exhaust note and a look to match.

The upgrade included:
🔧 A full stainless steel cat-back exhaust system.
🔧 Resonator removal.
🔧 Smaller rear silencers to bring out the character of the EcoBoost engine.

The result is a cleaner-looking system underneath the car and a much more enjoyable soundtrack every time it’s driven—without losing the everyday usability of the car.

As these photos show, we took the time to ensure everything was fitted correctly, aligned perfectly and finished to the highest standard.

The new stainless steel exhaust not only transforms the appearance underneath the Mustang but also gives it the sound it always deserved.

☀️ What an incredible day at Beach Dubbin!

We had an amazing time attending this year’s show, taking centre stage with our stand and having the privilege of judging the Best Water-Cooled VW in the Show & Shine.

The quality of the cars on display was incredible. From iconic air-cooled classics to some of the cleanest water-cooled Volkswagens around, there was something for everyone and the atmosphere throughout the day was fantastic.

🏆 Our choice for Best Water-Cooled VW was an immaculate Volkswagen Golf Mk6. The attention to detail, presentation and overall finish made it a well-deserved winner.

A huge thank you to everyone who came over to our stand to say hello, chat with the team and share their passion for Volkswagens. It’s always a pleasure meeting so many like-minded enthusiasts and putting faces to names.

A massive thank you to the organisers for putting together such a fantastic event. We had an amazing day and can’t wait to be back again.

🤔 Would you expect an engine management light to be caused by something as simple as this?

This BMW came into the workshop with the engine management light illuminated, and naturally the owner was expecting the worst.

After carrying out our initial diagnostics, we discovered the vehicle had previously been remapped. Because of this, it’s likely the normal AdBlue warning wasn’t being displayed correctly, allowing the AdBlue level to become critically low before the engine management light appeared.

Before jumping to conclusions, Alex carried out a series of checks to make sure there wasn’t a fault with the AdBlue system itself. We verified that the level sensor was operating correctly and that there were no issues with the tank or its components.

Thankfully, the fix was far simpler than expected…

✅ A top-up of the AdBlue system.

We also showed the customer how to manually monitor the AdBlue level through the BMW iDrive system, so they can keep an eye on it in the future, especially if the vehicle doesn’t display the usual warning messages.

It’s a great reminder that warning lights don’t always mean an expensive repair—but they do always deserve a proper diagnosis.
