As some of you may have seen in the current issue of Scootering there is a five page article on a 1960 Lambretta TV175 which my customers 94 year old Dad bought Brand New, His name is Leo Concannon and he rode it up until three years to go to the gym!!! (True)
Last year he gifted it to his Son Paul. I was asked if I would pop over and take a look to see if it was possible to get it back on the road and possibly restore it. Over the last 65 years, Leo had touched up the majority of the scooter to cover up rusty bits with 2 different layers of paint which were different colours to the original. It was agreed that a full restoration would spoil the history of the scooter so a sentimental rustoration took place.
It took 27 days to gently remove the 2 layers of paint (by hand) after stripping the scooter completely to get down to the original paint, then a good couple of layers of Satin Lacquer done by GT Finishing to bring it back to life.
Then a 12v conversion, cables, engine build etc and She's alive and now riding around the Villages of Oxfordshire.
It was an Honour to be trusted to carry out this amazing transformation and to meet Paul, his wife Nicky and especially the adorable Leo who through thick and thin never had to sell it to provide for his family, Hats off to you Sir.
Here's a few pictures of before during and after.
