This Aston Martin db9 was brought in for the roof not opening a lock on the passenger side would not release with very limited information we had to use the the other side as a reference to troubleshoot the issue after a very tight strip down we found a dead motor hidden in the rear quarter the passenger side was seized solid and would not release the cable for the lock wiring was good so we replaced the motor and now the roof works it was a lot easier putting it back together with the roof down

More wiring faults this week mini vertical aim not working and bmw x1 4wd not working

The bmw had new x drive control unit with new plug seals and pins all genuine parts fitted and programmed in maybe they should put the control unit inside the car might not get as wet then 🤣

The mini had no up and down adjustment on the head lights we downloaded the wiring diagram from bmw and test the wiring to the headlights there was and open circuit to one of the motor wires on the drivers side abit of solder wire and heat shrink everything came back to life

Today I took on another electrical gremlin start stop not working this vehicle had been looked at by a few others first however the customer was not getting anywhere and was being told it may be down to a software update with our new remote diagnostics we agreed to take the job on and if we couldn’t find anything wrong we would proceed with the software update however I first wanted to test the wiring on the start stop system to make sure everything was there for the components to work after scanning the vehicle we saw no communication to generator I then knew we had to test the wiring most communication faults I’ve had with cars are normally down to a wiring issue or bad module but without testing the wiring and understanding how it works no one would ever know the cause of the problem so we sold the customer our diagnosis time and began testing for communication with my oscilloscope this system was running linbus a single wire network witch ran to the generator and the battery sensor after scoping both wires we then saw the issue open circuit to the generator no lin signal to save the customer time and money we offered to bypass the broken wire and run a new wire from the battery sensor to the generator rather than taking the whole front end off to find the broken wire so in the end we was able to offer a cheaper solution to repair the fault but only because we charged diagnostic time to understand the fault without that we would of just swapped parts and hoped for the best and no part unless you fitted a new wiring loom would of fixed the problem but that’s still very costly we have wire solder and heat shrink and can make up a wire in an hour no new parts needed only time this is why we charge for diagnostics to save money on parts that are not needed and give the customer a solution to there problem 3 hours later the job is done the vehicle is back on the road working perfectly and didn’t even cost as much as a new alternator to fix it
