From the DVSA.......

Taking stronger action against those breaking the rules.

From 12 May 2026 only learner drivers have been allowed to book, change, swap or cancel a car driving test.

This rule change has given us new powers to take direct action against those who misuse the booking service. And we are using those powers to make things fairer for all learner drivers.

Cancelling driving tests
We have started to cancel driving test that we have identified as being booked or managed outside of the new rules.

So far, we have cancelled 450 tests.

They were cancelled as they were booked using a payment card that has been used to pay for lots of driving tests for different learner drivers. This means that the tests were not booked by the learner driver taking the test. Our terms and conditions allow us to cancel tests where this happens.

We are continually monitoring the booking service and will keep cancelling tests where we have evidence of bookings made in breach of the law and our terms and conditions.

We have placed 4,034 online booking suspensions on the system
A suspension means the driving licence holder can no longer book or manage tests online. They will need to call our customer service centre instead.

We’ve also updated our guidance to confirm that a suspension stays in place for 12 months.

We have reported apps to Apple and Google
We have successfully removed 17 apps from on the Apple and Google platforms that break the terms and conditions of our booking service. We will continue to monitor the platforms and report any new apps to have them removed as well.

Please remember these 3 simple things:

Do not use unofficial apps or websites to find or book a test slot.
Do not book a test through anyone on social media.
Only ever use GOV.UK - it is free and secure.
Do not ignore this advice, the consequences are serious.

DVSA can suspend your online booking access. Your test can be cancelled. You could lose hundreds of pounds with no way to get it back.

And once you hand over your personal data to a scammer, you have no control over what happens to it.

A reminder to all learner drivers about unofficial apps and scams from the DVSA.

As you know, since 12 May 2026, only learner drivers have been allowed to book, change, swap or cancel a car driving test.

The new terms and conditions for the booking service mean that learner drivers are not allowed to:

- use unofficial apps, websites or services that scan the driving test booking service looking for appointments
- give someone else their details so they can book a car driving test for them

We’re emailing learner drivers to remind them to stop using any apps or tools that search for driving tests for them. They must only use GOV.UK to manage their booking.

We’re reminding them that if they use an app or tool that searches for driving tests, we will:

- suspend their ability to manage their test online – they will then only be able to make changes or book a new test by phone
- cancel their booking

Our top priority is making the system fairer for all learners.

We are continuously monitoring activity and where misuse is clearly identified – including cases where a learner has not legitimately booked their test or where our terms and conditions are breached – we will take appropriate action, up to and including cancellation of the test.

We’re also reminding learners about the dangers of trying to book or get an earlier test through anyone on social media.

Please:

- do not use unofficial apps or websites to find or book a test slot
- do not book a test through anyone on social media
- only ever use GOV.UK – it is free and secure

Had this update through from the DVSA over the weekend about practical test bookings..........

New driving test booking rules: action we're taking
As you know, from 12 May 2026 only learner drivers have been allowed to book, change, swap or cancel a car driving test.

The use of any bots or automated searching of our service also breaks our new terms and conditions.

We've moved quickly to enforce the new rules and continue to do so. Here's what we've done so far.

1,178 driving licence numbers suspended from online booking
Where our monitoring detects unusual activity on the booking service, we will suspend access to book, change or cancel driving tests online.

We’ve already done this 1,178 times for driving licence numbers involved. We email learners to tell them when we’ve done this.

They will be able to call us if they need to book or manage their test.

Apps reported to Apple and Google
We have reported a number of third-party apps to Apple and Google for breaching both our terms and conditions and the platforms' own developer guidelines.

We are working with both platforms to have non-compliant apps removed.

Social media accounts being taken down
We are reporting social media accounts and groups that advertise services that are against the law or break our terms and conditions.

Platforms are already removing accounts as a result, and we will continue to report others.

Businesses continuing to use bots have been suspended
We have suspended 7 business accounts that breached our terms and conditions. They were (unsuccessfully) trying to book car driving tests.

We will not hesitate to suspend further accounts where we find the rules are being broken.

How you can help
As their instructor, you are often the most trusted source of advice for your pupils. Please encourage them to:

only ever book, change or cancel their test through GOV.UK
only ever pay the official DVSA fee - £62 on weekdays and £75 on evenings, weekends and bank holidays
not use any app, website or social media account offering to find or secure an earlier test slot
If a learner would like an earlier appointment, the only legitimate ways to arrange this are:

using the GOV.UK service to change their driving test appointment
swap their driving test with another learner driver directly with DVSA
Thank you for your continued support in helping to make the system fairer for every learner.

Lovely morning walk along the longest lock free stretch of the Thames which is why it is perfect for the rowers. So many other interesting aspects from both a nature and historical point of view. Pillboxes are positioned for miles on both sides of the river dating back to WW11 showing how important this part of the country was.
Only another 5/6 miles to go and i'll have completed my 40 miles. Thanks to everyone that has sponsored me so far, but there's still time for those that haven't got around to it yet. Please donate whatever you can. https://fundraise.tvairambulance.org.uk/fundr.../graemerolfe

Beautiful afternoon for a walk by the river watching those aspiring to be in the next Oxford boat team! Added another 3 miles to the total yesterday, so 11 miles to go. Thank you for everyone's support so far. Please keep donating whatever you can. [https://fundraise.tvairambulance.org.uk/fundr.../graemerolfe]
