📣 From 9 May DVSA driving examiners can use public car parks for the reverse park into a bay manoeuvre if it is assessed on your driving test 🚗

This will allow the reverse manoeuvre to be assessed on all car driving tests, not just those with their own car park 🅿️

The reverse manoeuvre will not be assessed on every test 📝

The way our driving examiners assess the reverse manoeuvre is not changing ✔️

It’s International Women’s Day, and we wanted to celebrate a pioneer that changed the transport world: Mary Anderson, creator of the modern windscreen wiper. 👏🏼

In 1903, Mary designed the first windscreen wipers after sitting on a tram during bad weather… but her invention was initially scoffed at as distracting for the driver! 👀

Mary was swiftly followed by a woman named Charlotte Bridgewood who patented an automatic wiper system that used rollers instead of blades. Bridgewood’s daughter, the actress Florence Lawrence, had invented the turn signal as well.

Women have – and will continue to have – a vital impact on the transport industry. Could you be part of that future?

Changes coming in from tomorrow (Saturday 29 January) ⚠️

New Highway Code guidance will help people cycling, walking and riding horses even safer.

🚗Part of the guidance includes encouraging people using cars to open their doors with the hand furthest from the door, to help them look over their shoulder behind them for people cycling or walking.
